Obviously, nearly everyone will be very excited to support vaccine with the potential to prevent certain types of cancers -- and rightly so.

As always, the devil is in the details.

Did she take cash from Merck and then mandate a Merck product on the people of SC by executive fiat? Did she require the legislature to override her actions?

No? Hmmmm indeed....

I wonder if she was part of the unanimous vote against the bill...

I don't know where I stand on the HPV forced vaccine. Because I understand vaccines against measles and mumps but those aren't STDs.

Then again we can't be stupid and not realize that teenagers are going to have sex no matter how much abstinence we teach. It didn't work on me, and I'm sure a few folks around here believe I'll burn in hell for all eternity for it but that's what happens when you are a teenager...

But the main thing is this is a hit piece on Nikki Haley because she is a right wing conservative WOMAN!!! The last word WOMAN is what the left fears the most. They fear strong women like Sarah Palin, Nikki Haley and Michele Bachmann. They thought all women were in NOW.

How could a woman be a Republican??? OMG let's smear her!!!

I love how the left always talks about sexism this, sexism that, but they have no problem bashing women as long as they are conservatives.

When everyone else is using fear and misinformation, it is very hard to be the only one on the side of rationality. Unfortunately, Nikki gave in to the peer pressure in the end.

Yep, along with about 60 other legislators, she signed onto an idea that was not well thought out. Eventually the bill was unanimously rejected, so obviously information about the bill was presented, processed and every sponsor, including Haley, ended up rejecting what they once favored.

Isn’t that what we want our legislators to do when they make a mistake?

Unlike the executive order for which Perry is taking heat, this legislative mandate did not include a provision for parents to opt out of inoculating their daughters.
Well, Perry's EO didn't "include an opt out." What it did was direct the relevant agency to add "apply via internet" to the methods available (mail, fax, in person) for requesting the state-issued opt-out affidavit. The opt-out itself was created by the Texas legislature, in 2003.

And, the reason the proposed HPV mandate of Haley didn't include an opt out. state law already had one, just like state law in Texas already had one.

Haley was throwing her support behind a similar bill

The difference is that it was a bill not an Executive Order.

If Perry had gone about it the same way, instead of bypassing the legislative process, none of this would be an issue.

It would have been shot down in Texas (as his EO was) just like it was shot down in SC.

Is there any way to recall this Commie filth from office? Haley needs to go. HPV is just far to important an issue. It’s not like the country is falling apart and everyone is losing jobs and their homes. I can’t tell you how many people spout off unsolicited about the Gardesil issue anymore. It has to be the #1 election issue for sure.

“...As the debate over Texas Gov. Rick Perry mandating the HPV vaccine continues between Republican presidential candidates,...”

And somewhere in Washington D.C., a wannabe socialist dictator with big, stupid-looking ears is laughing his ass off...

...because the debate SHOULD be “Obama and the Democrats DESTROYED the economy; which GOP candidate is best qualified to unf***k it?”

But no...

More attempting to confound the issue by making the discussion about Gardasil itself. Aside from Bachmann’s rantings, the issue is solely about the method Perry used to impose it in Texas, bypassing the legislature and mandating its use, while having close ties to Merck folks (therefore having at least the appearance of impropriety).

This real issue is further compounded by the phony “opt out” (there is no such thing in the EO, only a directive to make an existing paper form available via the Internet) and by Perry’s lies about the fallout of the EO — he claimed to have humbly accepted the legislature’s rebuke when in fact he claimed they didn’t have the authority to overturn the EO and blamed those who voted to do so for any cancer case in the future, surrounding himself with victims while issuing the condemnations.

Did Haley do any of that?

“State Rep. Kris Crawford, a physician who led the debate to discredit the policy resulting in the bill’s demise, said even though Haley voted against the bill like everybody else he wondered why she didn’t remove herself as a bill sponsor if she opposed the mandate.”

Merck had a business plan.

That business plan involved getting Gardisil made mandatory in enough states to recoup their R&D costs.

They threw a whole lot of money at a whole lot of politicians, including Republicans, and especially women.

If we are going to talk about mandating any vaccine, there has to be firm scientific proof that the risks of death or pandemic outweigh the risks of the vaccine itself.

The fact that the must-have immunization list has undergone a five-fold increase in a quarter-century tells you that drug makers are just buying their way on to the list. Too many of these diseases are not fatal or are avoidable by other means.

That is the REAL story in this Perry-Bachmann dustup.

EVERY governor during that time period was implementing Gardasil programs, having either already implemented them or in the process of implementing them. Merck was going to get money for the vaccines whether a state was trying to keep it at the local level with private money or if the state chose to use federal tax-payer money for Merck’s Gardasil vaccines. I don’t see how any of this, any state or any governor, fits into a “chrony” charge, REGARDLESS of how each state chose to pay Merck. They ALL were paying Merck in some form or fashion. These people need to start putting this all into a historical and contextual perspective.

HPV, that causes most cervical cancers

Point of order, here:
It "causes" most cervical cancers, or "is linked to many" cervical cancers.

No, seriously, I'm asking.

Hoping to preemptively destroy a potential presidential/vp contender before she gets started.

Another political party, one on the left, would see this for what it is: racism and sexism. But since that same party is the perp here, it’s just good old business as usual.

She only put her support behind a bill...Didn’t order kids to have it. Now if as Gov. she did this I might have a problem. I think some reporter sees a political future for Gov. Haley....They think maybe in 2020 she will be ready to be President Haley! Yes I will go ahead and say it Haley/Rubio 2020!!!! LOL
