Why Obama should withdraw
The Chicago Tribune ^ | September 18, 2011 | Steve Chapman

Posted on 09/18/2011 4:28:27 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

When Ronald Reagan ran for re-election in 1984, his slogan was "Morning in America." For Barack Obama, it's more like midnight in a coal mine.

The sputtering economy is about to stall out, unemployment is high, his jobs program may not pass, foreclosures are rampant and the poor guy can't even sneak a cigarette.

His approval rating is at its lowest level ever. His party just lost two House elections — one in a district it had held for 88 consecutive years. He's staked his future on the jobs bill, which most Americans don't think would work.

The vultures are starting to circle. Former White House spokesman Bill Burton said that unless Obama can rally the Democratic base, which is disillusioned with him, "it's going to be impossible for the president to win." Democratic consultant James Carville had one word of advice for Obama: "Panic."

But there is good news for the president. I checked the Constitution, and he is under no compulsion to run for re-election. He can scrap the campaign, bag the fundraising calls and never watch another Republican debate as long as he's willing to vacate the premises by Jan. 20, 2013.

That might be the sensible thing to do. It's hard for a president to win a second term when unemployment is painfully high. If the economy were in full rebound mode, Obama might win anyway. But it isn't, and it may fall into a second recession — in which case voters will decide his middle name is Hoover, not Hussein. Why not leave of his own volition instead of waiting to get the ax?

It's not as though there is much enticement to stick around....

What I have noticed is that Hillary is the only one every mentioned as an alternate candidate. They don’t have much in the way of alternatives over there. Biden? No.Pelosi? No. Reid? No. Schumer? No. Franks? No. Who do they have who is attractive, articulate, youngish and non-repulsive and remotely reasonable? They have become a cartoon graveyard.

HRC is so very shrewd

I've never seen any evidence to support that.

She's mean, underhanded, and vindictive, but shrewd? She couldn't even outfox a street hustling community organizer.

The Democrats are in a hard place: If they keep Obama they'll kill their chances in the House and Senate because of his downward drag. If they dump him, they lose the black vote, which would be the kiss of death.

More cheerful words were never spoken. Gosh, I love good news.

Any alternative to Obama is going to look incredibly popular.

Not to black voters, and the Dems cannot win without them.

The democrats/statists/progressives/socialists/communists have a problem.
Their guy cannot win a 2nd term.
They cannot ask him to step aside.
They cannot mount a primary challenge.

A number of them also have no shame, honor, loyalty, morality or compunction.

Use simple logic here. It does not take an Einstein to see that this leads
to a dark, very sad and dangerous place :-(

Pray...

Zippo has to be forced out and make it look like the repubs did it. Then Hillary gets to play the race card.

I see that backfiring on the Dems and their presumptive nominee (whoever it is).

Black voters will rightfully suspect that the Republicans had help from the Dems in pushing Barky out. In their minds, Obama is invincible, and can't be taken down by any force less than the whole political establishment.

Conspiracy theories will run rampant in the black community, and they will (again, rightfully) wonder why their own party failed to protect him. The feeling of betrayal would become rampant. Not a good scenario to elect a replacement Dem.

I don’t think Hillary has the physical ability anymore to do it - she has neither the stamina nor the appearance.

You're right. Plus, she stated emphatically that she will not run for president again. She's figured out that her day has passed, even if paranoid Freepers haven't.

Of course Obama will run.

He thinks that the only problem is that we are all too stupid to understand his government-based solutions.

More speeches ought to do the trick...

Who else are they going to run? Pelosi? Sharpton? Kerry again? Harry Reid? Algore? John Edwards?

Hillary is their option.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not seeing any evidence that Hillary is a viable alternative for the Dems. Ask yourself this: How is she going to sell herself to black voters when they think they can have The Won for another four years?

And have you seen her lately? She looks like she's aged twenty years since the last campaign. She herself has said that she has no interest in running for president again. In the interview where she said that, the interviewer phrased the question three different ways, and she emphatically answered, "no", each time.

I think she's ready to retire from active service and find her place as a senior party insider.

Obama is the man who despises America.

No need for him to withdraw. He is going to be ejected.

The American dream that he has been so busy destroying is going to be revitalizd as the American people turn away from the rot of socialism and marxism and the way it is draining this nation's economy and spirit, and turn back to the foundational, fundamantal moral principles that made this nation strong, and to its attending free market.

In this regard, we have been having "Tea Parties" across America for years, fighting this sickness. We did not always call them that, but it is nonetheless what they were.

In 2009 it broke out in ernest across the nation.

Americans see for themselves the futility and danger of the socialist, liberal, RINO, and go along to get along establishment politicians and they began turning them out in 2010, and will continue to do so in 2012.

The faith, prayer, encouragement, hard work and hope of tens of millions is coming into play.

Still, in this regard, the good Lord does not promise us that we will not have difficiulty, He promises us that we can have peace, fulfilloment, freedom, and love in spite of it.

"In the world ye shall have tribulation. But be of good cheer. I have overcome the world." - John 16:33

The fundamental moral truths taught and given us by Jesus Christ are the reason America is free. Because a large enough portion of our people freely choose to follow those principles.

A awakening to those fundamental truths is occurring. It made a difference in 2010. It will make the difference in 2012. Some do not couch it in these terms, but the principles they are turning to, and freely choosing come from Him...and it will have its sway and impact. I look forward to it...though it be a long, hard road.

This is the key and secret to our liberty, for America and her people in this world and for each of us out of it.

AMERICA AT THE CROSSROADS OF HISTORY

...blacks as a whole are prcommitted to all Democrat nominees and will respond accordingly.

No offense, but I don't think you understand the importance of race with black voters. They are not going accept a white substitute for Obama in the next election, no matter who it is.

Under normal circumstances, your calculus works, but not in this case.

I don’t think he will withdraw. I think he will run. The conundrum for the Democrats is that their strongest base of support is African-American voters. If they replace Obama with anyone who is not black, then these voters will believe they weer cheated, and they will sit out the election.

On the other hand, Obama believes (this is my psychologizing, so take it for what it’s worth) that his whole life has led to the point where he can “fundamentally transform” America. He is utterly incapable of doing anything other than foisting redistribution on the United States.

He grew up believing that revolution was imminent, and that the way to get there was to overload the system, through the Cloward-Piven strategy of constantly increasing the number of people who believe they have a right to receive money from the government. To his surprise, he found that the Left utterly “misunderestimated” the American persona, and that rather than crawling to the government to rescue us, we are demanding that the government lift the boot from our throats.

He has nowhere else to turn. This is why I believe the reports that say he is depressed. He is in the position to do what he thinks he has to do, and the peole are not behind him. He can’t quit, though, because in his mind it is all about him (and he’d have to face Michelle as a failure).

I think he will continue in office, and continue to lose authority. As someone — Andy Stern? — said a week or two ago, nobody fears him any more, and without that fear he can’t do what he had intended.

Look — he’s not wearing any clothes!

“I don’t think he will withdraw.”

Does Hillary enter the mix, in any way, with her popularity, high visibility and presidential ambition? (Along with
Bill’s desire to get back into the White House.)

Thanks again.

Only the ones that show up to vote.

There was an article in the Washington Post(?) right after the 2010 mid-term elections, which contained interviews of many blacks who had voted for BO in 2008, but said they could't trouble themselves to get to the polls in 2010.
