A World War II era fighter plane plunged into the grandstands Friday during a popular annual air show, injuring at least 75 spectators and leaving a horrific scene of bodies and wreckage.
It wasn't immediately known how many people were killed, but a medical official said more than 75 people were injured.

Just read KOLO TV twelve dead as many as 100 injured. Hit directly into box seats.
RIP Jimy Leeward.
My guess is too many Gs pulled and resulting black out.
Don’t know whether to laugh hysterically or just scream at this kind of event.
Horrible situation.
Aren't libs classy and I'm glad they believe in civility... / major sarc
He was 80 years old.
Somehow that seems like a bad plan.
The pilot was 80 years old???
Why would you laugh?
That’s what they are reporting...
That does seem like a bad idea. Even if you 80 years and seemingly perfectly healthy, things can get bad awfully quick.
Leeward is the owner of the Leeward Air Ranch Racing Team and is a well-known racing pilot. His website says he has flown more than 120 races and served as a stunt pilot for numerous movies, including "Amelia" and "Cloud Dancer."
Horrible!
As*wipes. Liberals are filth.
Actually it’s 100 less to send them checks.
We can live without them.
They cannot live without us.
My sweet little girl was just there on a field trip yesterday - I shudder to even imagine anyone I know being there today. Eye witnesses are reporting body parts strewn everywhere, and one specifically saying how he saw a man cut in half from the debris. Just horrific. Prayers up to all affected. This on the heels of the Carson City mass shooting last week. Lord help us.

More likely a mechanichal failure. This was a race. These pilots push these planes to the absolute limit.

Looking at the comments on YouTube right now, it looks like there's a comment from someone who was their and who knew one of the pilots following this guy. The report from the other pilot is that part of the elevator broke off the plane and it became uncontrollable.
Racing, whether it's cars, boats or airplanes, often pushes machinery to the limit and beyond (into failures). With airplane racing, the speeds are higher, and you have gravity and that third dimension to deal with. Failures result in crashes.
I'm not sure how many of the spectators thought through the risks they were taking. The pilots know. Somehow they believe they won't hurt anyone but themselves if something goes wrong.
I'm not sure what the future of events like this will be.

Gee I hope Reid wasn’t there.
What would Nevada do without him.
