HYATTSVILLE, Md. — Michelle Obama says a pledge by the Olive Garden, Red Lobster and four other restaurant chains to serve healthier meals is a "breakthrough moment" for the industry.

The Darden restaurant company pledged Thursday to reduce calories and sodium by 20 percent over 10 years. It will also make a fruit or vegetable side dish and low-fat milk standard with kids' meals. If a child wants French fries, an adult will have to ask for them.

Michelle Obama: ‘I Can’t Stop Eating French Fries. But Eat Your Vegetables’

EXCERPT

“No, if I picked one favorite, favorite food, it’s French fries.” The audience began to laugh. “Okay? It’s French fries,” Obama continued. “I can’t stop eating them.” As the students laughed more, the First Lady quickly returned to her role as advocate of health eating. “But eat your vegetables,”

Presuming this was a voluntary decision, I’m fine with it...however, I really don’t like the Dietary Gestapo.

I am the first to admit that I should eat better, but this comes across like indoctrination to me.

Call me skeptical, but all this means to me is blander food in smaller portions that I have to pay the same price for anyway.

This news will set the stock market soaring, balance the budget and put millions to work - plus save Israel from her demonic neighbors. This is huge! The Obamas do it again - saving the world from jiggly fat kids.

I wonder if Olive Garden will call their new menu the Wookie Special?

I have no problem whatsoever with Darden doing this. One Red Lobster biscuit contains 300 calories and who knows how much sodium. Their good, but I bet they can be just as good if made a little lighter. As far as french fries go, Red Lobster has about the worst fries in the world so I don’t see this as any great loss. Finally, I’m sure Darden wouldn’t do this if they didn’t think it would make them more dough in the long run.

Did anyone notice Mooshells hamburger. I hope that is two bites and not one mammoth bite from that mammoth mouth! Looks like she could take that hamburger out in two bites according to the pic:-)

Olive Garden, the “McDonald’s of Italian food. I could make better when I was ten years old. Who wants my Grandma Rose’s recipe for her Garvy or Sauce? We have this argument in my neighborhood about who called it what.
