Obama declares 'national emergency' for action on jobs plan
By: Carrie Budoff Brown September 14, 2011 02:08 PM EDT
RALEIGH, N.C. President Barack Obama opened the sixth day of his jobs push Wednesday with a campaign-style rally at North Carolina State University, saying the country is in the midst of a national emergency that requires Congress to act swiftly on his $447 billion plan.
Against the backdrop of more negative poll numbers and two special-election losses for Democrats, Obama called on thousands of college students assembled in the steamy Reynolds Coliseum to mobilize behind the plan, a mix of tax cuts and government spending on infrastructure, jobs programs and construction projects.
The 26-minute speech before a crowd of more than 9,000 echoed his remarks in previous days, with a slightly sharper critique of congressional Republicans for suggesting that they dont want to give Obama a political win and pass his proposal.
I get fed up with that kind of game plan, and weve been seeing it for too long. Too long, Obama said. Were in a national emergency. Weve been grappling with a crisis for three years, and instead of getting folks to rise up above partisanship in a spirit that says were all in this together, we got folks who are purposely dividing, purposely thinking just in terms of how does this play out just in terms of this election.

Obama declares his reelection a national emergency.
Incremental insanity. More to come...
I expect to see Barry donning one of those white hard hats with a flashing red light on top yelling through a megaphone “Emergency alert ! Emergncy Alert!”>
I can;t say you are wrong about the budget, but is the budget a bill?
Once filed in the House (according to Constitution), my understanding is the budget would then become a bill.
Notice prince O once again makes it clear it’s not his fault with his line about grappling with the problem for 3 yrs..
What powers or authority does he gain by declaring a national emergency?
None of that matters anymore. The only important things are:
Campaign contributions
Getting re-elected
Keeping the rabble from rioting
Keeping the banksters happy so they will keep cashing the checks
Having a new I-junk every couple weeks so the people are blinded by bullshit
All of that “pledging our lives, our fortunes, our sacred honor” stuff, that’s the old way.
This is the new world.
Agreed djf. The new world is much less attractive than the old way (imho). Today's new world is full of graft and corruption while the people are distracted to not notice. The old way probably left us shortly after the WarBetweenTheStates or CivilWar (whichever name one prefers), and has gone downhill ever since. The outside interests of other nations contributed also (imho). Coming back to the foundations, created by our founders, may not ever happen. If (that little word) our nation should return to the founders original intent(s) it would take people who would be in the masses, but just as you typed those who rule see fit to distract the people rather than face reality and bring the people along. Knowing where this leads, honestly do not want to go there, but being that the leadership is strong enough to create numerous distractions, there will never be enough people not initiate an if (that little word) maybe. Many times I too am nothing but cynical of what awaits all Americans. Other times I pray God is in charge and will remove this cup from our lips which the devil(s) have placed in front of all of us here in America. Uncertainty leaves room for faith that it will be the will of God, and not the will of the devil(s).
I wonder what is the REAL problem, are the Obama supporting unions afraid of something on the horizon?
