NEW YORK (AP) -- Republicans have scored an upset victory in a House race that became a referendum on President Barack Obama's economic policies.
Retired media executive and political novice Bob Turner defeated Democratic state Assemblyman David Weprin in a special election Tuesday to succeed Rep. Anthony Weiner, a seven-term Democrat who resigned in June after a sexting scandal.

>LOL, I just may tune into MSNBC tomorrow night just to see the sour faces on Sgt. Schultz and Rachel MadCow<
ME TOO! lol. $5 says they’ll blame Bush
That’s the most disgraceful aspect of this: Weprin doesn’t live in the district. Lautenberg, by the way, a New Jersey senator, lives in Manhattan and Anthony Weiner - despite now being a resident of Manhattan - voted in Brooklyn today. What a bunch of gargoyles!
this is the end of the Anthony Weiner jokes, but its the start of the “Shrinking MSNBC Cable Weiners” Jokes,,,Im sure Chris Matthews just lose two inches.
I'm still banking on September 15th. . We'll see. .
Run Sarah, RUN!
hi, Miss M, how are you?
Sometimes it’s just FUN being wrong. I’d warned about counting our chickens before they hatched when polls showed Turner in the lead, and am tickled pink with this result.
I heard this is the first R in that district since 1921 .. a mere 91 years. What next, the Upper West Side? Nah.
Probably not.
They don’t appear to have been prepared according to Jewish dietary laws.
More like the dietary habits of 3am drunkards.
Yes, he was a great star and a wonderful actor. And he had an overwhelming love for this country. My husband teaches film acting in NYC - most of his students are from overseas. They are so young they do not know who Clark Gable is or Jimmy Stewart. But they all know The Duke. My husband can never get over that!
No, the Upper West Side will be like Masada before they vote Republican, lol! Although, they did cheer Bush shortly after 9/11.
It IS wonderful to be wrong on occasion.
I feel like there’s a party going on here tonight. Feels good after a really bad day.
well, they actually did it. And it was Jewish voters who did it. Wow...dems lost their base.
Sotero ... the baffoon is toxic.
Illinois is just as nuts as New York any day, and twice as stupid. After all, this is the Sucker State and it sure is living down to that. In Chicago, almost everybody is acting against their self interests. My apologies for Illinois inflicting the Black Jesus on the whole country. I personally have voted consistently against 'The One', starting with Alan Keyes.
Not to worry, he'll only be there for one year.
Redistricting realigns the district.
Imam-Obama; the anti-Israel, anti-Semite, anti-American, Afro-centric-black racist, anti-Christian, anti-Judaism, pro-Islam, pro-Muslim, pro-Muslim, pro-"Arab spring" RAGE/uprising, giving his whole-hearted approval in support of the Taliban and Al-Qaida under the guise of the "Muslim Brotherhood", taking over and imposing Shariah-Law in Egypt, Syria, Libya, Jordan... and in his support of the "Muslim Brotherhood's", and their uprising; their hatred of everything having to do with Israel, America, the West, the Jews....
The very NYC Jews Imam-Obama hates, while still pandering to for votes, these same Jews told Obama and the Democrat horde that has been supporting him and his evil policies which are designed to destroy Israel, America and them; to all take a flying leap off the Brookline Bridge!
I understand about the redistricting, but what I think is important tonight is that thousands of people who never once in their lives (or in their families’ histories) so much as considered voting for a R, DID. This does not bode well for Team O.
I am sure Imam-Obama’s and the DemocRATS on-going, perpetual rabid support for the Ground-Zero Mosque also played a big role in todays “Revenge of the Jews!”
“The sweeeet part of this is the RATS cannot ditch Urkel no matter how unpopular he is. Without the Black vote the party is dead and it will evaporate if he is ditched. Even if he resigns it will mean the crushing of the party. Could not happen to a nicer bunch of people.”
I never thought of that, but particularly looking at 2012, you are so right. It’s a lose-lose situation for them.
Yes! This has always been about sending a message to Obama. We’ve known for a long time about the redistricting. But New York Republicans fought for the seat, anyway. That’s real determination to shake things up. They should be very proud of themselves.
By some estimates, 60% of contributed dollars to the Democrat Party come from Jews.
Can you say, “Cash Flow Problem?”
I knew you could.
Yeah, and the other 40% comes from undisclosed overseas donors ;)
