You do realize that Romney would never nominate a Scalia/Thomas/Alito to the SC right?
I was here, on FR, lurking leading into the 2000 election. I read that exact same sentiment said about George W. Bush. "Compassionate Conservative" was portrayed as code language to moderates and leftists that while Bush could talk a good game on Conservatism, his heart really lay with them.
Now Bush certainly had his fair share of flaws when it came to adherence to Conservative principles. But his nominations to the Supreme Court (Roberts and Alito) weren't one of them.
Romney may be a RINO ... but he is savvy and certainly not politically suicidal. Getting into office promising Conservative bench appointments, and then reneging on those promises, would be the very definition of political suicide in this environment. The Dems will NEVER support him, and Conservatives WILL be paying attention and will turn on him in a heartbeat if he tries to pull a bait and switch. Which will damn his hypothetical presidency to the dustbin of history. He's smart enough to know that, IMHO, and will play it straight.

Take a look at Romney's record of appointing judges in Massachusetts. To excerpt an article from the Boston Globe:
"Governor Mitt Romney, who touts his conservative credentials to out-of-state Republicans, has passed over GOP lawyers for three-quarters (75%) of the 36 judicial vacancies he has faced, instead tapping registered Democrats or independents including two gay lawyers who have supported expanded same-sex rights."
What does that tell you?

You could not be more wrong. He proved here in Massachusetts that he will betray us at every turn, all the while seeking approval from Democrats.
