Giuliani promised to only appoint strict constructionists, and is stong on defence and the rule of law. He also promised to back the Hyde amendment.

I was a Fred Head at the time, and complained to his office, and was told the above.

Perry endorsed McCain on Feb. 1, after Giuliani dropped out.

The NYT is hoping that Palin will launch a third party campaign to divide Obama’s opposition, a la Ross Perot’s bid that got Bill Clinton elected. It’s the Democrat’s only hope of hanging on to power.

The msm has done its part by so thoroughly poisoning the electorate against Palin that she cannot win, but she could siphon off enough conservatives to save Obama.

Don’t get me wrong - Many a time I’ve just said “I can’t discuss that” or otherwise avoided the subject. But that doesn’t always work...

For Palin: In a nationally televised debate? Or being interviewed for a national audience by Katy Couric? Won’t fly...

FWIW, I’m presently “undecided”. But it seems to me that what Palin did under McCain is not the big deal, ditto for Perry under Bush.

The Vice President is not subordinate to the President. Constitutionally the Vice President is not a member of the executive branch, but is a member of the legislative branch. There is no reason why a vice presidential candidate and a presidential candidate must have the same policy views.

Technically, that's correct, but politically, it's a nuclear minefield. I've already discussed which type of issues a VP candidate can disagree with a Pres. candidate on...

How often does one hear a VP or VP candidate disagree with their "boss" on a major issue, even when you know such disagreements must exist? It doesn't happen - for good reason.

Like the way she ran her half-marathon, mingling with the back and slowly working her way up front.

Also, she still expects the field to expand.

Stretching hard.

Maybe she should have accepted the vp nomination by McCain, and then totally gone against what he wanted as head of the ticket.

Not working.

I hear you, but I think we both know that's not a very compelling defense--certainly not one that most conservatives would make with a straight face. It's a transparent dodge. And that only raises more questions about Perry's judgment. The bottom line and inescapable fact is that Perry endorsed a man who unapologetically opposed the banning of partial birth abortion to be the nominee of a pro-life party. And Perry must be held accountable for that endorsement.

Face it. You’re reaching as hard as you can, and the fact that she said it when she was controlled by McCain makes it very likely, from a strictly logical standpoint, that it can’t be pinned on her.

She’s nnot only been saying these things, but she’s been acting on them, effectively, all along as well.
What she says is entirely consistent with her record.

Sarah Palin had to stay within John McCain’s shadow. She couldn’t make promises that McCain wouldn’t stand behind. It might not have been easy for her.

Being a thorn from the outside is nothing like being president leading a restoration.

Why have so many FReepers fallen for the MSM/GOP Establishment kingmaker/cheerleader line for Palin?

"we’re so used to goofiness coming from Palin"

The "goofiness" doesn't come from Palin herself. It comes from biased reporters who distort her words and sentences.

SHE has too many obstacles? Hmm, have you looked at Perry’s negatives? Guess not. He, too, has some hurdles to get over. None of them is perfect and if people are looking for the perfect candidate, they might as well stay home and let zero have another 4 years in office. Its as simple as that.

Frickin' clueless sheep in this country fall for the media narrative. Palin has been saying these things all along, but they are ignored and she is just spun as a 'dunce' or 'extremist'. Just like the relentless 24/7 media somehow pins economic ruin on a president that maintained unemployment at or below 5% and many consecutive years of GDP growth. Anyone who is to the right is savaged, while cretin's like Pelosi and Obama are propped up and covered for at every turn. Regardless of any one's opinion on Palin in this Presidential race, Palin has been a champion for the people for many years, and especially since she entered the national scene. The media is too busy digging through her garbage and emails to report what she actually is saying.

You are absolutely correct! I saw nothing new in her speech. Since Obama is bungling his presidency so badly, and the republican front runners aren't exciting many, perhaps that is the reason they are giving her a second look.

This is the kind of populism that sounds so good and feeds the envy of those who desire more--like me BUT what is lacking here is any kind of policy to create the kind of utopia Palin is longing. It is also easy for Palin to say as she has made her millions, which kind of capitalist is Palin?

It's easy to paint this kind of picture from her perspective--not so easy from the perspective of the middle class but it is a good way to empower Palin. I want a policy behind this rhetoric.

“Hard to be against the political elite when you ran with John McCain.”

I think we have all had to deal with people and circumstances that we did not agree with.....I can’t just stay locked up in the house (even though I would like to away from the bull####).....I don’t see Palin flip-flopping on important issues, and that is why she butted heads with the McCain camp during the 2008 run.....She has been faithful on issues since her days as Mayor.....If you can’t see that, you choose not too......Nobody else running gives a speech comparable to her Tea Party appearances.....She even called McCain out by mentioning his (Hobbit’s) statement....She’s the real deal, no stupid talking points, just the facts......
