Among the victims on 9/11 was Barbara Olson, the beautiful and brilliant author and political commentator who perished when American Airlines flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. Many here will recall that she was an avid Freeper ( her screen handle was "bko" )...and many who are new to FR may not have known it. It was because of FR that I had the very good fortune to get to know Barbara..indeed, the week before she died we'd spoken on the phone, to talk about actually meeting in NYC for the first time later that month. She was an absolute delight, and I thought I'd like to briefly share with all of you a little bit about my experiences with her.
Barbara and then Tony a few years back, we have lost a lot of good people over the years.
I miss Chief Negotiator the most of all.
Thanks so much for posting this. I remember your “reports” very well.
The poem the priest recited at Barbara’s funeral. It still affects me.
I walked a mile with Gladness;
She chattered all the way;
But left me none the wiser
For all she had to say.
I walked a mile with Sorrow,
And neer a word said she;
But, oh! The things I learned from her,
When sorrow walked with me.
That’s very sweet of you to tell us yours and Barbara’s story. What an awful day. We lost so much.
I'd have done time if it ever had gotten past joking.
She was a hottie on top of being brilliant. What a loss this world suffered, with her untimely death.
You’re a good freeper. Way better than some old fool who posts “I’d hit it” all the time. :)
Thanks for posting this.
I miss the old times on FR. Remember the RECOUNT! Such a good memory. Seems different now, lost the freshness and the civility.
We should have a reunion!
I have to agree. I had a different screen name then.. those were heady days.
The righetous indignation that permeated everything, and rightfully so.....remember hanging out in FR awaiting the results of the florida SC decision, and the ultimate SC decision....7-2.....and the media spins it to 5-4. 5-4 was the remedy, not the decision.
...and 9/11.....this was the first place I visited....reports from FReepers on the ground within minutes of the first plane...
Remember tourist guy? DITHF?
... ah, some great stuff back then.....

Nice tribute ken5050!
I am from the class of 98 and vividly remember bko and others. We didnt only lose Barbara that day, but also Captain Moran.
Great tribute to Barbara Olsen Ken. Thank you for writing and posting this. Did the local library ever put her books on the shelves?
RIP BKO. We are well into it now.
Tears for your loss and ours. That was truly written from your heart. Thank you for sharing and God bless.
Always Guennie...
Ken thank you for this thread...
Yes Guennie, and as we enter this solemn weekend and are hearing newly released tapes, I very clearly remember years ago when they released the surveillance video from the airport of our Dear Barbara gathering her belongings after going through the metal detector and proceeding on toward the plane. I didn’t even know it was coming. I have no words to describe the feelings I had when I watched that video.
Thank You.
Never Forget.
