Good post.

Is the operative word “lightweight”?

I’m not an Obama fan, but doesn’t just about everybody eavesdrop on the embassies in their territory?

Exactly! That's what embassies are for. Geeez!

This is so not a story. All countries—friendly or enemy— spy on each other. I worked at an Army facility that produced equipment of interest to many countries. We even had liaison officers assigned to oversee their interests. A guy from one of these countries was found dumpster diving one very dark night.

Eventually, the story got out on post. We all laughed about it and kidded the man in the cafeteria. Officially, he was lightly spanked and told not to do it again. Life went on. We assumed all the liaisons were intelligence gatherers for their respective countries. It goes without saying we do it to them as well.

When I was stationed in Thailand, the Thais asked for my unit's help in improving their ability to intercept communications among the Communist Terrorists in the Northeast. The American Ambassador vetoed the project because he didn't want the Thais to improve their capability to listen in on his transmissions.

Is this really a surprise to anyone? The Israelis spy on us, we spy on the Israelis. Same deal with the Brits, the Canadians, the Mexicans, etc, etc.

This will be the NY Times lead tomorrow, so it must have happened during the Bush years.

This is no big deal. Every country spies on both its allies and enemies.

Actually, they have been spying on Israel for many, many years. This is common knowledge. Then again, everyone is spying on each other.

But, I’d be willing to wager that Obama and Clinton have raised it to a new art form.

It all reminds me of Mad Magazine’s hysterical cartoon “Spy Vs.Spy”.

Actually, all of the above. It was written that Israel would stand alone.... and would be the only one left standing.

In point of fact, the USA was merely investigating the availability of Israeli art for acquisition.

Oh, I thought maybe Obama was leaving town for good and wanted to use the Urban Moving Systems Company.

Ok, if it’s no big deal, let Pollard out of jail to return to Israel. Spying is no big deal. Everyone does it.

Israel is an ally, not the 51st state.

I suspect that you would just as soon have Israel as an enemy.

Every country spies on every other country if they can. Does not matter if it is a friendly or unfriendly nation. I detest Obama but in my opinion this is much a do about nothing. As a matter of fact, I would be disappointed if we were not doing this type of covert surveillance

We still need to try to prevent it from happening to us and that means locking people up who assist other governments in spying on us. If you do the crime, you do the time.

The reason Pollard is still in jail is to discourage others from thinking about doing likewise.

“We spy on all our friends and they spy on us. As a matter of fact, we spy on all our friends and enemies.”

Absolutely.

The only relevance is to the faux shocked John Burch/James Baker/Pat Buchanan Freepers who act so outraged that Israel dare spy on the USA and imply some evilll Jooooo conspiracy.
