Oh, Carolina!
Italian-Americans from Brooklyn, African-Americans from The Bronx and New Yorkers from the suburbs are flocking to the once sleepy town of Charlotte buoyed by big business like Bank of America and lots of Big Apple transplants.
What has been dubbed the "New York phenomenon" swung into high gear around 2005, according to Erin Watkins, research director at the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
There were 2,000 tax returns filed in Charlotte's Mecklenburg County in 2009 by either individuals or married couples who filed in New York City or Long Island the year before, according to IRS data.

Let’s hope they go back.
“Let’s hope they don’t bring lefty voting habits with them.”
Too late. NC went Obama in 2008, unlike SC.
Too many here too. And obnoxious to boot.
It's like a bankers heaven. Beautiful banks to work in and great restaurants to experience while you visit Charlotte. That was my impression.
North Carolina is the new Florida for NYers and NJerseyites. The swing started about 15 years ago, and really picked up during the recent real estate boom (which inflated both housing values and property taxes, causing more people to leave) and the 2004 Florida hurricane season (which soured many potential transplants on Florida).
As soon as I figure out where transplanted Northeasterners DON’T go, I’m setting my sights there.
...and I’m a Northeasterner.
Wherever I land, I know I’ll have to spend the first two years explaining to my new neighbors that “I’m not like that.”
My condolences to Charlotte.

Construct a wall around NY to keep leftists in? Or a wall around NC to keep them out?
Yep, we are headed to NC in February to buy real estate.
We’ve had enough of liberal North East pissing our hard earned money away.
Build the wall at the Potomac...
Yes, they are called halfbacks. FL is too hot for them so they go half way back home.
There are counties in East Tennessee where McCain defeated Obama by a 75 - 25% margin...it will take a loooong time to ‘flip’ those areas...beautiful country and wonderful people, as well...
Unfortunately they do. :(
Interesting. I live in New Jersey and my wife has been on my case about reloing outta here. I don’t really want to (I like it here!) but I can’t exactly ignore her either. Maybe Charlotte’s worth checking out. Thanks for the post!
Before you move to NC, remember it has been called more corrupt than Louisiana.
It has no speedy trial law, and a prosecutor may (and some have) hold a defendant up to four and five years in jail BEFORE trial. Its grand juries keep no records of testimony (meaning a DA can lie to the grand jury to get an indictment, and never be called on it.)
It just passed a law permitting a DA to excuse himself from handing over proof of innocence to a defendant, by claiming that the police never showed it to him. (That’s an excuse big enough to drive a 747 through.)
The Duke lacrosse case could almost not have happened in any other state—because the accused players were never allowed to present their proof of innocence to a court (and they were never interviewed by police or the DA in the year the case lasted). The case would have been over in five minutes if they had been allowed to do so.
It’s not called a “constitution-free zone” for nothing.
They’re all over. I’m on the NC coast. You can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a NYer. I’m in the military and stationed here, so I have nothing to gain or lose. Just an observation.
