The Creator must love irony. It's not irony, it's obedience! He and his group decided to worship idols and give thanks to idols, rather than to God.
3. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

Actually, it strikes me that sub specie aeternitatis it was probably not a matter of irony, but of grace. Whatever state the man's soul was in when he survived the original car crash, when he died he was making a holy pilgrimage in thanksgiving to God. Evidently he was meant to die in a road accident.

We all have to die. Pilgrimage is a choice.
People have been dying on pilgrimages since the early days of Christianity. It is a risk all pilgrims freely undertake, to a greater or lesser extent.
Having reached the end of this journey, may they now sleep in peace.

It might not be the Creator’s irony, it might be someone else who inspired the driver to hit them, or to use drugs/alcohol that resulted in his “falling asleep”.
