60% Say Palin Run Would Hurt the GOP
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 9/2/11 | Rasmussen

Posted on 09/02/2011 12:33:40 PM PDT by CA Conservative

A plurality (47%) of Likely U.S. Voters believe it is at least somewhat likely that Palin will enter the presidential race, but that includes only 13% who feel it’s Very Likely. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 35% think a Palin bid is unlikely, but just five percent (5%) say it’s Not At All Likely. Eighteen percent (18%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Only 18% of voters think it would be good for Republicans if Palin entered the race. Sixty percent (60%) say it would be bad for the party, while 11% predict it would have no impact. Twelve percent (12%) are not sure.

Even most Republicans (52%) believe it would be bad for the GOP if Palin threw her hat in the ring, a view shared by 74% of Democrats and 54% of voters not affiliated with either major party.

"You and everyone you know would vote for a person... ...not on the ballot?

Ask Alaska who their newest Senator is, and is she was on the ballot.

And no, not everyone I know, but quite a few of them will write her in in the unlikely event that she doesn't announce. It's called a "write in" vote, and it is possible to win election by write-in ballot. Truth be told, I honestly don't believe there is anyone in this race whom the power of office will not immediately corrupt besides Palin.

Few win office planning to turn their backs on their constitutents, but the power of elected office is a beguiling seductress, and the opportunities to turn astray are impossible to imagine or plan for in advance.

Sarah is so prayerfully led, and so God-centered, and Todd will be there to help keep her strong and on-course. I truly believe that if anyone other than Palin wins, it's just a matter of time, this nation is done for.

But don't fret, she's running.

The election itself is a year away. We have months before the primaries. Filing for candidacy doesn’t close till the end of October. Polls now are meaningless. The press does polls to FORM OPINIONS. They are used to influence, not inform. I don’t care what a poll says.

Jedediah Bila has done a great job digging into Palin’s record. No doubt about it.

I have posted that and gotten one, honest, surprised response. People that are honest about it have no idea what her record is.

It’s a trash poll, but if you accept the results as something real, then consdier that the GOP has lashed itself to the RINO train for years, and therefore deserves to be hurt.

The current GOP hates conservatives.

The most recent Senator in Alaska to win a (write-in) election is Lisa Murkowski. But you knew that. Now you're supposed to play the oh-so-clever wordsmith and say, "But she's not "new," she was the Senator...!"

Perch. CHAWMP!!! pwned.

Wrongo! I did not know who the senator from Alaska was or I would not have asked. The only Alaskans I know do not like Palin and probably didn't vote for her for Gov and certainly would not vote for her for president. They are liberal twits.

We certainly need to choose wisely, no question about that. And I agree Bush-43 was a big disappointment. However another 4 years of 0Bama will finish this country off for good to a 3rd world status. I simply can not live with that prospect.

None of our candidates are anywhere near as bad as 0Bama. Some are of course better than others. My preferences are Bachmann & Cain. Perry is also acceptable to me. But I will not in a million years stay home on election day because that in effect helps 0Bama.

I will not stay home on election day either. And If I die before the election, I live in a Dem state so I'll "vote" anyway but not for who I want to. ;-) (small attempt to lighten the thread!)

I am NOT looking for purity... you know that is so two weeks ago... get the campaign to write some new material for you guys... anyway... I am not looking for purity... JESUS was the only perfect man and they crucified him.

What I do demand is that my leadership actually believes in the TENANTS of Conservative ideology and uses our Constitution as their guide. That is not purity... that is the way that the system that our Founders created was designed to function. What is wrong with our government today is that the dims AND the Republican Party... by and large... have violated and brushed aside our Constitution... as if it were a putrid obstacle to their personal desires.

The solutions to our problems will not be found in moderate positions and timid responses.

I offer you this speech with the explanation that everything Reagan said in that 1995 CPAC speech applies to today.

RONALD REAGAN 1995 CPAC Speech

(snip)

"We did not seek world leadership; it was thrust upon us. It has been our destiny almost from the first moment this land was settled. If we fail to keep our rendezvous with destiny or, as John Winthrop said in 1630, “Deal falsely with our God,” we shall be made “a story and byword throughout the world.”

Americans are hungry to feel once again a sense of mission and greatness. I don ‘t know about you, but I am impatient with those Republicans who after the last election rushed into print saying, “We must broaden the base of our party”—when what they meant was to fuzz up and blur even more the differences between ourselves and our opponents. It was a feeling that there was not a sufficient difference now between the parties that kept a majority of the voters away from the polls.

When have we ever advocated a closed-door policy? Who has ever been barred from participating? Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of NO PALE PASTELS, but BOLD COLORS which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people?

Let us show that we stand for fiscal integrity and sound money and above all for an end to deficit spending, with ultimate retirement of the national debt. Let us also include a permanent limit on the percentage of the people’s earnings government can take without their consent. Let our banner proclaim a genuine tax reform that will begin by simplifying the income tax so that workers can compute their obligation without having to employ legal help. And let it provide indexing—adjusting the brackets to the cost of living—so that an increase in salary merely to keep pace with inflation does not move the taxpayer into a surtax bracket. Failure to provide this means an increase in government’s share and would make the worker worse off than he was before he got the raise.

Let our banner proclaim our belief in a free market as the greatest provider for the people. Let us also call for an end to the nit-picking, the harassment and over-regulation of business and industry which restricts expansion and our ability to compete in world markets. Let us explore ways to ward off socialism, not by increasing government’s coercive power, but by increasing participation by the people in the ownership of our industrial machine. Our banner must recognize the responsibility of government to protect the law-abiding, holding those who commit misdeeds personally accountable. And we must make it plain to international adventurers that our love of peace stops short of “peace at any price.” We will maintain whatever level of strength is necessary to preserve our free way of life.

A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain FUNDAMENTAL BELIEFS which must not be COMPROMISED to POLITICAL EXPEDIENCY, or simply to swell its numbers. I do not believe I have proposed anything that is contrary to what has been considered Republican principle. It is at the same time the very basis of conservatism. It is time to reassert that principle and raise it to full view. And if there are those who cannot subscribe to these principles, then let them go their way."

There is only one person today with a tinker's chance of winning... that actually sees this Republic as Reagan envisioned her... sees the perils that we face and has the balls and instinct to implement the hard choices that have to be made... and face down the consequences of those actions and stand firm in their convictions to see it through... without looking cautiously towards the next election... as ALL career politicians do. That person is not wearing Cowboy boots.
