John Fund: Why Sarah Palin Is Not Running
Newsmax ^ | 09-02-11 | John Fund

Sarah Palin will swoop into Iowa and New Hampshire to speak at tea party rallies this Labor Day weekend, whipping up talk she will announce her candidacy for president. After all, this coming Saturday will mark the third anniversary of her acceptance speech for vice president at the Republican National Convention – a speech which established her as both a conservative icon and a magnet for criticism.

Her supporters are certainly encouraging talk she will be a 2012 candidate. Peter Singleton, her Iowa political organizer, told National Review’s Robert Costa last month: “I believe she will run. Labor Day will kick off the Republican campaign for the nomination. She is going to make a major, major speech.”

But Team Palin is extremely sensitive about anyone else who speculates about what she’s up to. Karl Rove, President Bush’s political strategist, told Fox News last month he thought Palin’s schedule in Iowa meant she would announce her candidacy this coming weekend. That prompted this riposte from Team Palin on the website of her PAC:

“Any professional pundit claiming to have ‘inside information’ regarding Governor Palin’s personal decision is not only wrong but their comments are specifically intended to mislead the American public.”

At the risk of being accused of misleading people, let me state that Sarah Palin isn’t running for president.

Just some more speculation on what Palin will do. Makes as much sense as the 523 other theories.

Either John Fund is half-assing it, he is purposely downplaying that Rove intimated he had inside knowledge of Palin’s schedule while saying September 3rd was her last chance to jump in, or both.

Since it ends in her not running, it make far more sense.

He has no idea about anything Palin.

At the risk of being accused of misleading people, let me state that Sarah Palin isn’t running for president.

Oh, I guess Sarah called John Fund up and told him herself.

This, I did not know:

In a recent slickly-produced video producer by Team Palin that chronicles her bus tour of Iowa, Palin shakes hands with a girl in an “Americans for Rick Perry” T-shirt and then poses for a photo with the girl and her fellow Perry supporters.

“Given the elaborate editing that went into this production, is it likely that Palin would have approved a visual nod to Perry as a mere coincidence?” asks blogger Robert Stacy McCain, a keen-eyed Palin watcher. “I don’t think so.”

I was just about to post this. :)

I think he lays out a pretty compelling argument.

Fund is an idiot.

Far from it. John Fund is one of the few serious conservatives working as a 'mainstream' journalist. He's an excellent researcher and a top-notch reporter. Check out his book "Stealing Elections" if you'd like to learn a few things.

He has no idea about anything Palin.

That remains to be seen. However, I doubt he would stick his neck out to this degree without a solid source.

I agree with this analysis.

I think she’ll sit this election out, but she’ll put everyone on notice that she will mount a 2016 primary challenge if the next GOP president doesn’t fly right.

I think John Fund is precisely on target with this one! I’ve been saying exactly the same thing for weeks!

Bit of a nadir from Fund.

A misquote of what Palin said about Iowa + Palin being photographed with someone wearing a pro-Perry T-shirt

That’s it. That’s what this article boils down to.

Palin is definitively the most exciting person in politics if tiny little details about her are breathlessly conflated like this.

He has no idea about anything Palin.

Who does? Everyone celebrates Palin's Sphinx like maneuvers to out wit the MSM, then get angry when theories are put forward that try to explain them. Fund isn't some cranky blogger or kook. Most of his stuff is well reasoned and thoughtful. This one is no different. Since there is no definitive proof on either side of the "running" argument, all theories should be able to be discussed.

Fund, the epitome of inside the beltway elite cronyism, knows for a fact Palin isn't running.

Anyone who believes he is in the know, well, I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.

That's about the most likely scenario, IMO, too. By some measures, she's a "kingmaker" in the GOP. As was shown in the 2010 election, landing her endorsement is a huge plus for a conservative candidate. Though she hasn't tipped her hand directly, it seems she relishes her current free-agent status. But we shall see.

Can't the same be said for those that are very certain she is going to run?

I think she's playing Perry and his supporters as fools with purposeful editing. Reminder, she says there's no one in the race RIGHT NOW that she can get behind:

M. Kelly video from August 18th (11:42) When asked what would make Palin get in the race...

PALIN:(quickly typed)... still looking for a candidate I can get my heart and soul behind to support if I don't see that person in short order I would be willing to put my name forward in the name of service...

KELLY: Have you not found him or her yet?

PALIN: No, I'm impressed with the line up but there still is quite a long process, lot of coming and goings with this line up... I know I'm not the only potential candidate sitting on the sidelines waiting to see things unfold.
