Perry in position to lead on immigration policy
Houston Chronicle ^ | August 31, 2011 | Geoffrey A. Hoffman

Imagination is the key tool missing in the political arena.

Immigration policy, especially, suffers from a lack of creative solutions and imagined possibilities for a better future, not just for immigrants but for all of us. The undocumented population recently was estimated at approximately 12 million. However, no one knows for sure how many there are in the United States. By definition, the undocumented are unrepresented in our political process, but also in our census. There is no way to accurately count them. There is no way for them to forcefully represent themselves, their interests or to communicate their political will unless citizens and advocates do it for them.

This lack of imagination is starkly illustrated by recent proposed legislation - for example, the so-called HALT Act, aimed at stripping immigrants of some forms of discretionary relief, as well as overreaching state legislation, which aims to tighten restrictions on noncitizens and their families by making it easier to question, detain and deport them. The alternative (not yet imagined in the minds of legislators or the public) is to address the salient question: How do we utilize the talents of the millions who have been relegated to the shadows? Imagine tapping into the creative energies and ideas of these people, bringing them from the shadows to the forefront of our economy and society, educating and empowering them so they can serve as future leaders and engines of empowerment to others and engines for our teetering economy.

You should understand it isn’t just the elites. People here are pooping all over themselves supporting candidates and non candidates that are awful on immigration. Either they have a glaringly poor record...or they are non commital and murky using the usual “pathway” vernacular.

People here are only strong on immigration if its the other guys candidate that sucks and is getting the thrashing. So predictable. The sick part will happen when the next GOP president does as Bush did, and push a CIR bill. Heads will be exploding and we will all be told to man the phones. I ask, why bother when people should have known better? It was all out there.

I bet that little bastard McCain is polishing up his CIR bill, the McCain/Dead Ted bill, with greedy delight. He is going to show us xenophobes.

The only one running, or not running, good on immigration, is Bachmann. But she hired Rollins. OMG!

Perhaps she should hire Juan Hernandez and get ahead of the game. Truth is, it is probably already too late. Obama needs the votes.

okay, I am done venting for the day.

Okay, what is the downside? There is one. I am sure of it.

Obamacare will probably end that.

Mexicans will come up here for treatment at our expense, but we will be stopped from getting treatment in Mexico. I know there is a catch. LOL

If Perry did write a letter in support Spector's bill or anyone elses here (not doubting you, just haven't read your materials yet), he most certainly deserves to be outed for it. All those bills were digusting.

The four governors, including RINO Mitt Perry, sent their letter to both House Speaker Dennis Hastert and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist. From what we know of RINO Mitt Perry he no doubt supported the Senate version that included amnesty. And given that the governors of six Mexican states joined the US governors in signing a joint declaration to congress, I doubt very much the governors as a group supported the House version which included language to deport 10-11 million ILLEGAL aliens who were already in the US.

Medical Tourism WRT Mexico is usually people going to Mexico to get alternative treatment, which is 1000 times as effective as the pharma crappola that passes for medicine here.

All cancer cures are literally illegal here.

Perry is a weathervane.

He “updates” his position to whatever is the most popular at the time.

He makes Obama and the Slickster look honest by comparison.

I think we’re going to have one interesting debate next week. It’s kind of hard to slither when there’s a nation full of witnesses tuned in.

I wonder which dance Mittens and Catnip will choose?

Mittens should use the Polka when he needs to dance around things.

Catnip should pick the Mexican Hat Dance.

I hope Rick Romney grills Mitt Perry on his liberal past, and vice versa.

Funny thing about that. The Rickstians constantly repeat the rumor that Bachmann is working for Romney but when I mention that Perry's communications director is married to Romney's chief Texas fundraiser, I'm told it doesn't mean anything or its "innuendo".

I can see it now...

I’m the biggest RINO.

You are not, I am.

No you’re not, I am.

Futurama episode quote.

Fry and Leela are watching a debate. The candidates are clones, they use the same tone of voice and body movements for each other’s short speech]

Jack Johnson: It’s time for someone who has the courage to stand up and say,

[slams his fist on the podium]

I’m against those things that everybody hates!

John Jackson: Now, I respect my opponent. I think he’s a good man. But quite frankly...

[slams his fist on the podium]

I agree with everything he just said.

(I would have voted for Nixon’s head BTW)

“Perry in position to lead on immigration policy”

Based on his past actions, not his current campaign speeches, I fear he would “lead” us to the rear: amnesty.

Just as Willard cannot be trusted on health care unless and until he says RomneyCare was a huge mistake, so Perry cannot be trusted unless and until he says his illegal immigrant pandering was a mistake and that he is now for zero tolerance border enforcement, a cut off of all welfare services to illegals, and forcing illegals out of our country by rigid enforcement of employment laws.

We’ll see.

My brother had gastric bypass surgery done there because his useless insurance wouldn’t pay. He did his research, contacted people who had the surgery and has not had any medical problems because the doctor has simply done the procedure 1000 times compared to a lot of the doctors here with minimal experience. All of his other medical conditions have gone away which is actually a lot cheaper for the insurance in the long run.

Of course with the crap going on now with the drug cartels, it wouldn’t be prudent to go there unless it was a last resort. It’s a lot easier to save $5,000 - $10,000 than it is to raise $40,000+.

I’m not too fond of the FDA/big pharma cartel at all.

There are procedures not allowed here but allowed in other countries that work.

It was bi-national INSURANCE not just come get the freebies. Not all Mexicans are poor and looking for freebies. If I lived on the border like that it would be nice to have more choices right?

0bamacare is a curse on us all.

meh, you are wasting your time. There are two camps around here right now. One has a candidate that is running, the other? Who knows? They aren’t interested in anything other than glowing reports for their candidate.

And then there are the other guys who tend to not be overly enthused. You say you like one of the others and the people in the other two camps pop up and whack your candidate on the head. Then they go back to whacking each other.

Maybe it is best to let them whack each other to shreds until they cancel each other out. LOL

Baja is still quite safe and civilized.

The medical clinics there are fabulous, like resort hotels.

I have not heard anything bad from Cain, but he is old and won’t get the votes. He does have some virtues. A few years ago, when someone asked him if he was thinking of running for congress, and he said he thought he dust off his old suit. I like humility.
