Sarah Palin Appearance at Tea Party Rally in Iowa ‘No Longer Confirmed’
WSJ ^ | August 31, 2011 | Danny Yadron

Posted on 08/31/2011 8:11:56 AM PDT by markomalley

Sarah Palin canceled her Saturday appearance at a tea party rally in Indianola, Iowa, a person close the former Alaska governor told The Wall Street Journal.

The person cited “continual lying” from event organizers at Tea Party of America, including a recent mixup over whether former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell of Delaware would also speak.

Ms. Palin is known for last-minute schedule changes that whipsaw supporters and media across the country. But the latest decision is puzzling. Ms. Palin’s speech at the rally was viewed as her most high-profile appearance of the summer, fueling speculation she was indeed plotting to run for the Republican presidential nomination.

Attendees were reportedly traveling from across the U.S. to attend the rally in Iowa, which holds the nation’s first nominating contest next year.

The former governor will now appear at a Friday event in Des Moines sponsored by the group Conservatives4Palin. It is currently scheduled for 8 p.m. at The Machine Shed Restaurant, though the location will probably have to be changed, the person close to Ms. Palin said. Ms. Palin is still scheduled to appear at a Tea Party Express tour stop Monday in New Hampshire.

Ms. Palin may still hold an event Saturday, the person said, though she has no firm plans. It’s also possible she could still attend the Indianola tea party rally, the person said.

The former governor’s team decided to back out Tuesday night after rally organizers re-invited Ms. O’Donnell to speak on stage. Organizers had booked Ms. O’Donnell, who lost her 2010 bid for a U.S. Senate seat from Delaware, to speak but quickly withdrew the invitation in an effort to avoid controversy.

The sad thing is the Sarah Palin ping list cult is way past that stage.

Oh I don't think so....they are devoted though ...and hopefully each of us will be as enthusastic for the candidate of our choosing.

The fact is Palin...and even her followers... does get into everybody's head....as she has yours...and that without trying.

That is my point. The GOP has helped to destroy Sarah's credibility and image almost as much as the liberal Sarah-haters and media. I can't understand why they did not get behind her, help to educate her on larger issues, world affairs, etc. and groom her along the way. Certainly...they have had enough time and an example of how to prepare a candidate by seeing what the Dems did for Obama who is and was no where near close to being the qualified candidate Sarah was and could be.

Instead people like Rove, and FOX media like O'Reilly continually demeaned her and left her out on a limb. To her astounding credit she has rallied amazingly well on her own. She is a quick learner and skilled tactician. But, without the support of the deep pockets who are controlled by the likes of the good old boys gang in the GOP, she can't overcome all the baggage, mud, lies, and negative hype that has been slung at her. And she still, IMHO, lacks some international finesse. Maybe she has learned a lot in the past four years, and has been hiding that knowledge. Maybe her hold out is because she wants to really be geared up and prepared for the possibility of one on one debates with Obama.

We can all agree that her wit and quick tongue is refreshing and spot on. We are all glad when she lambastes the political frauds and hypocrisy that is rampant in Washington. But, there still is an aura of too much "country" about her that might not sway the on-the-fence voters and independents with just quips and winks. Bush had country folk mannerisms somewhat, but he also had a strong presence and command of information that overcame that. Sarah sometimes seems "whiny" rather than resolutely stoic. Remember how Bush's biggest detractors continually harangued his presidency about his "cowboy" image?

They will not let up with Sarah. As a result many voters might fear her homespun style as not well-suited for being in the throws of serious international relations and the intricacies of dealing with the looming problems of the deceitful terrorist country leaders. I am just afraid that will work against her in the long run and I want our GOP nominee to have all the cards necessary to win the game against the machine Obama. I wish it were differently, but I am trying to see what seems to be a brick wall that she will face when the party leaders meet in those smokey back rooms.

I have no concerns of Palin on the International Scene. She has excellant people around her to navigate that...and she herself has come up to par with what's going on. Besides she is very much aware of the Islamic threat.

Additionally she has had more than her share of "smoky back rooms" in her position as governor...and came out on the other side the victor.

People still make the classic mistake of equating plain spoken/folksy whatever, with stupid.

When considering what all those Yale/Harvard diplomas have gotten us, I think ‘Folksy’ is a far better thing to be. I have met way more college educated morons than I have ‘dumb’ country bumpkins.

Keep in mind, the muslim in the WH MUST be defeated. And soundly. Please notice the country is in a perilous state and we need every minute, every second until 11/12 to defeat the traitors and deceivers currently in power. IMO we have no time for games — and I resent the idea that I am being PLAYED for political expediency. So keep your gamers. I’m done.

I was listening to someone speaking about Obama the other night....saying his educational background etc. coupled with his ego will not permit him to connect with the people. He talks to them but doesn't engage with him until he has hit the "time to clap" button. The he is still in the ego mode and not engaged. He talks over people not to them.

Many politicians do that....Palin on the other hand speaks candidly and engages with all she encounters. It's a part of her overall makeup...and she does it very well...regardless of how she "sounds"....she has charisma.
