..There have been a slew of polls showing Gov. Rick Perry of Texas surging to double-digit national leads. He leads across demographic groups among educated Republicans and less-educated ones, among upscale and downscale. Most impressive, hes winning over the Republican activists who pay the closest attention and wield disproportionate influence with primary voters.
A poll by the conservative political Web sites, The Daily Caller/ConservativeHome, surveys these activists. When asked this week which candidate was most electable, 46 percent named Perry, while only 20 percent named Romney. When asked who would do the best job on the economy, 27 percent said Perry and 14 percent said Romney. When asked who would do the best job controlling Washington spending, 20 percent chose Perry, 17 percent said Representative Paul Ryan (who isnt running) and only 8 percent chose Romney.
..Nationally, the events of 2009 and 2010 moved voters to the right. In 2008, Democrats had a 12-point party identification advantage among families earning between $30,000 and $75,000. That advantage is gone, according to a July Pew Research poll. In 2008, Democrats had a 7 percent advantage among white voters under 30. The Republicans now have an 11-point advantage with those young voters, according to the poll.
Within the Republican Party, the rightward shift has been even more vehement. In 2008, roughly 63 percent of primary voters called themselves conservative, according to Public Policy Polling. Now its roughly 73 percent. The number of moderate Republicans has withered. The events of 2009 and 2010 also concentrated the Republican mind. It used to be that there were many themes in the Republican hymnal. Now there is only one: Government is too big, and it needs to be brought under control

After 11 years of reforms by Perry, Texas still ranks at the bottom of many educational indicators. Texas has the fewest percentage of adults with high school diplomas, compared to the other U.S. states.
Texas is also ranked low in high school graduation rate.
Texas is 49th in verbal SAT scores in the nation and 46th in average math SAT scores. Can we trust him to reform Washington?
Just shows you don’t have to rank high in all that academia fluff to be the leader in job growth, economic prosperity, etc.
In January 2001, Perry proposed the Trans-Texas Corridor, a $145+ billion-dollar project that would build multi-lane highways, rail lines and data lines from Oklahoma to Mexico, and from east to west in southern Texas.
Instead of paying for the project with taxes, Perry proposed that it be partially financed, partially built and wholly operated by private contractors who, in exchange for a multi-billion dollar investment, would receive all toll proceeds, notably Cintra, a Spanish-owned company.
One of the more controversial aspects of the project was extensive use of eminent domain to acquire property. Opponents portrayed the proposal as a "land grab", and criticized Perry for opposing the public release of the actual terms of the 50-year deal with Cintra to the public for fear they would chill the possibility of the company's investment.
Perry's former liaison to the legislature, former State Senator Dan Shelly, returned to his consulting/lobbying work with Cintra after securing the TTC deal while on the state payroll.
All of Perry's gubernatorial opponents opposed the corridor project, as did the 2006 state party platforms of both the Democratic and Republicans parties.
You spread a lot of conspiracy stuff, there. Gallup *and* the NYT? You forgot Rasmussen http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2012/election_2012_presidential_election/obama_43_perry_40 and the Public Policy Polling.http://wingright.org/2011/08/23/perry-leads-iowa-republican-poll/
If he was smart Paul Rubens would run for President as Pee Wee Herman as a republican.. it could give his career a boost..
He could do all the talk shows and upstage Ron Paul..
I heard that!... “I know you are but what am I”... -PWH
He could easily get the California vote.. and most of the gays..
PeeWee Herman with Paris Hilton as VeeP... Terry Fator as Press secretary..
Yes, and Orrin G. Hatch went out of his way to confirm Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer. Same ol’ GOP
“Would you please quit trolling Perry threads with the same old info, weve read 100s of times? Are you that scared of Perry?”
Get used to it. Unfortunately, there are elements on FR that spend their time bashing someone they don’t like. Back in 2008, any Huckabee postings would have the same folks post the same anti-Mike material they had posted a hundred times before. It will be the same with Perry.
Personally, I actually prefer either Bachmann or Palin over Perry. However, I also realize that Perry will be probably be the nominee; I can accept that. He would be wise, IMO, to attempt to get Bachmann as his VP running mate to shore up the base. Palin would be probably a better choice than Bachmann, but I don’t think she would accept a “second banana” slot again. Of course, Sarah plays from her own sheet of music and defies pigeon holing. She will do what she will do.

¿Como? Yo no habla Ingles . . .
Merck gave a donation to the Perry campaign of $6000, hardly enough to *payoff* anyone.
Next.
Any actual conservative will be "divisive" because the Left believes that they should be dictators.
If that's your criteria, then we should nominate Hillary.
No Arne Duncan, it ain’t that bad.

It didn’t happen.

“...YES we can trust him to reform Washington! That is precisely WHY the Washington establishment is SO very afraid of him!”
I am not persuaded of that just yet, which is why he is presently my second choice. I -am- liking him more though. Please tell me why you think he would be willing and able to lance the Pustule on the Potomac.
Number 1 priority, get OBAMALAMA and his Socialist pigs out of our WhiteHouse!

As bad as Texas needs some N/S E/W major highway construction to handle the growth out toward the next 50 years we don’t seem to have anyone offering any plans today. But the imports are still coming in and apparently will continue, thus the goods will be moved to the centers of inland commerce be via congestion on the old ones or maybe new ones at some future date.
Merck gave two checks, one for $1,000 and another for $5,000 to Perry in the 2006 election timeframe (in 2008, they contributed a whopping $2,500). Here is a source to view all of Perrys contributions: ProPublica.
(8/13/2011):
When a voter in New Hampshire confronted Perry on the Gardasil issue, heres what he said, I signed an executive order that allowed for an opt-out, but the fact of the matter is I didnt do my research well enough to understand that we needed to have a substantial conversation with our citizenry, he said. I hate cancer. Let me tell you, as a son who has a mother and father who are both cancer survivors.
Perry said hed invested governmet resources in cancer cures, adding, I hate cancer. And this HPV, we were seeing young ladies die at the early age. What we should have done was a program that frankly should have allowed them to opt in, or some type of program like that, but heres what I learned when you get too far out in front of the parade they will let you know. And thats exactly what our legislature did.
A cynic may not buy his explanation, but Obama would never admit to a mistake at all.
Just he is that much in love with Ron Paul. It's so disgusting.
NY SLIME ragsheet of the Century!!!
Yes. A hell of alot more than Ron Paul.
