..There have been a slew of polls showing Gov. Rick Perry of Texas surging to double-digit national leads. He leads across demographic groups among educated Republicans and less-educated ones, among upscale and downscale. Most impressive, hes winning over the Republican activists who pay the closest attention and wield disproportionate influence with primary voters.
A poll by the conservative political Web sites, The Daily Caller/ConservativeHome, surveys these activists. When asked this week which candidate was most electable, 46 percent named Perry, while only 20 percent named Romney. When asked who would do the best job on the economy, 27 percent said Perry and 14 percent said Romney. When asked who would do the best job controlling Washington spending, 20 percent chose Perry, 17 percent said Representative Paul Ryan (who isnt running) and only 8 percent chose Romney.
..Nationally, the events of 2009 and 2010 moved voters to the right. In 2008, Democrats had a 12-point party identification advantage among families earning between $30,000 and $75,000. That advantage is gone, according to a July Pew Research poll. In 2008, Democrats had a 7 percent advantage among white voters under 30. The Republicans now have an 11-point advantage with those young voters, according to the poll.
Within the Republican Party, the rightward shift has been even more vehement. In 2008, roughly 63 percent of primary voters called themselves conservative, according to Public Policy Polling. Now its roughly 73 percent. The number of moderate Republicans has withered. The events of 2009 and 2010 also concentrated the Republican mind. It used to be that there were many themes in the Republican hymnal. Now there is only one: Government is too big, and it needs to be brought under control

August 26, 2011-- Boozy ballot: The drinking straw poll at Sharky's Cantina in Oak Bluffs is nearing its climax, and the epic battle between politicized adult beverages is a real horse race, a restaurant source said Thursday. So far, the Obamarita is leading the Rick Perry-inspired Perry Berry Tea-ni by a lime.
Gretas On the Record: Dick Morris's Path to Winning the GOP Nomination in 2012 [Perry vs Romney, Bachmann vs Palin]
David Brooks you quote, NY Times you quote? I would not wrap my garbage in the NY Times!
I honestly believe that Perry though very popular, is again being pushed by the pollsters, just as they pushed Bachmann.
Now in Bachmann`s case the pollsters very clearly manufactured opinion for her that was not real, yes she has some real support no question, but the pollsters manufactured much of her support. This is nothing new for pollsters, NONME of them can be trusted.
Now in Perry`s case vs Bachmann, clearly he has much more support, no question about it, but clearly pollsters are also manufacturing support for Perry as well. Rasmussen wanted to show a poll with Perry way out front, in order to do so he had to leave Governor Palin out, which he had already been doing.
Part of this push by pollsters is aimed at Gov Palin, they are trying to send her a message, they do not want her to run.
Gallup is in on it also, and the rest will follow for sure, but it is all manufactured.
It has already been decided by these same pollsters that when Sarah gets in, they will under no circumstances allow her to be a front runner.
Governor Palin can win the nomination and the White House ABSOLUTELY, but I wager she will never lead at any time in any of these phony MSM/Rep Establishment manufactured polls.
Actually the Obama drink should be an Obamakazi, or better yet, a Commiekazi.
President Barack Hussein Obama?
I didn't believe it either. (sigh)
And not in a good way, a la Katy.
your posts are so funny :)
makes me laugh every time
Brooks was mostly parroting what has already been said.
Nuttin new.
Hard to compare a half term governor of a small state to a multi-term governor of what amounts to 25% of America. While I wholeheartedly support Sara’s views and ideas, I would rather support someone who can actually beat Obama in a landslide. We don’t need another close election, or one that is so divisive. The lamestream media has had years to assassinate Sara’s character - in the general public’s mind she is damaged beyond electability. (Not to those of us in here, but to the general public.)
Romney is the left’s choice, not Perry.
No matter how effectively she governed Alaska, we as a nation do not need someone with so little executive experience in the White House again. (Or someone who didn’t even finish their first term.)
Perry isn’t perfect, no doubt. Border issues come to mind instantly. But on the whole, he’s the most logical choice.
I know all the Palin fans will flame me. Our goal should be to unseat the Kenyan with the best choice for our cause.
Are you really that deluded? Even if that were the case for Rasmussen, how do you account for PPP and Gallup, which did include Sarah, and which had almost the exact same margin for Perry in each of them.
It has already been decided by these same pollsters that when Sarah gets in, they will under no circumstances allow her to be a front runner.
I see. It is a great big conspiracy. It cannot possibly be that while Sarah is very popular with conservatives that she is very UNpopular with moderates and independents.
I seriously hope Sarah is more aware of her position than you are, and that she has a serious plan to try to improve her standing with moderates and independents. Because if she doesn't, she might win the nomination (although even that is doubtful under those circumstances), but she would lose the general election in a landslide reminiscent of Reagan/Carter or even Reagan/Mondale.
And once again we hear from the no-brain brigade...
Would you please quit trolling Perry threads with the same old info, we’ve read 100’s of times? Are you that scared of Perry?
Mind control chips.
+1
If it were merely old info, it would be annoying but irrelevant.
What it is, is propaganda.
Goebbels would be proud.
There is no proof, none, that Perry’s self admitted mistake re guardasil was because of a merck campaign contribution. He was perfectly capable of the mistake minus any contribution at all, and the contribution was miniscule compared to the huge bucks Perry drew.
It’s false to say he forced guardasil. It never happened, so it wasn’t forced on anyone. Thanks to the people demanding it not be done, and the legislature being ready to stop it if necessary, it died. Even while it was still breathing, it was given an opt out provision.
The thread spamming is also sickening.
But by now, since most people are sick of it due to its mindless repetition, it has succeeded in turning not a few people against the perp and his propaganda.
Damn RIGHT!
Texas is also ranked low in high school graduation rate.
Texas is 49th in verbal SAT scores in the nation and 46th in average math SAT scores. Can we trust him to reform Washington?
I don’t think your numbers are correct and YES we can trust him to reform Washington! That is precisely WHY the Washington establishment is SO very afraid of him!
Perry’s first selections to the Texas Supreme Court was the appointment of Xavier Rodriguez to succeed Greg Abbott. Rodriguez was a self-proclaimed RINO leftist! Can We Trust Perry With The U.S. Supreme Court?
