Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney wont be on stage for a conservative GOP forum organized by tea party favorite Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), a move that is likely to be seen by some in the Palmetto State as a snub.
An aide to Romney, who has been dethroned as the GOP presidential nomination front-runner in recent polls by Texas Gov. Rick Perry, said the former Massachusetts governor will spend time in New Hampshire instead but is not ignoring South Carolina, a crucial early primary state.
...
At issue is Romneys record on health care; DeMint has said that he would not endorse the GOP candidate unless he disavowed his health-care plan in Massachusetts.

Wonder why Rick Santorum wasn’t invited? Anybody know?
South Carolina ping
Mittens is screwed. Thank God.
I’m not a DeMint fan. IMHO he’s failed to live up to being the conservative we voted for.
However, his SC forum invitation to Romney, and Romney’s negative RSVP, is further proof of the man’s unfitness for office. He’s a card carrying RINO. If he felt confident in his politics he’d come down here and defend them. Instead, he chooses the charlatan politician’s way out. That is, to avoid as much as possible a principled give and take dialog.
He’s most comfortable with questions about where he gets his hair done,
Sometimes in these debate forums a candidate can't be under a certain percentage point of national polling favorability to be invited.
I don't know if this is applying to this particular forum, though.
I do agree with the concept.

Easy to see why Mitt declined,
He doesn’t want to come there and get questioned as a RINO and BOOOOOOed.
Here is my South Carolina ping to help bring attention to your post!
As always, if anyone wishes to be removed from my ping list just let me know through FreepMail. And if you have asked me before to remove you, forgive me as I lost my up to date lists. So please just ask me again. Thanks!

“The forum, officially titled the “American Principles Project Palmetto Freedom Forum,” will be fronted by DeMint, Iowa Rep. Steve King and Robert George, a conservative legal scholar and the founder of the American Principles Project.
Candidates will take turns fielding questions from the trio of panelists for roughly 20 minutes at a time.
According to organizers, candidates will be asked to “engage in a thoughtful, substantive discussion of their stances on critical issues facing our country.” “
Event is Sept 5 (Labor Day) at 3pm Eastern.
Thanks so much for the info. I should be home on the 5th in time to pull it up on line and watch. Thanks again!
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!?!?!?
I want to sincerely congratulate Senator DeMint on this award. Fully aware that Human Events cannot give the award to me every year, Human Events has made the only other choice they could make. Tough, courageous, rock-solid and unflinching, Jim DeMint charts the way for all of us in truly historic times.

Perhaps you'd enlighten us about DeMint's failure.
Perhaps I missed DeMint’s vigorous and loud opposition to the budget deal. “Vigorous” and “loud” are the operative words in the preceeding sentence. Other than a couple of tepid huhrumpps from the man his silence was deafening.
Palin’s twitters were far louder and congent than anything DeMint said.
Another point. DeMint’s failure is he—and the rest of the Conservative/GOP House members seated in the last election—failed to deliver one meaningful Conservative issue. If I’m wrong name exactly what was delivered or brought forward.
Perhaps your issues are different than mine: Acorn funding—No. Same people receiving same money using a different name. Tax policy— A resounding no. Environmental policy—A resounding no. Monetary policy—A resounding no. Unemployment—A resounding no. Social policy (abortion, same sex marriage etc.)—A resounding no. Illegal alien policy—A resounding no. Refusal to lift debt ceiling—A deafeningly resounding no. Refusal to allow more gov’t spending—A deafeningly resounding no. Refusal to require meaningful spending cuts now and in the future—A deafeningly resounding no. Elimination of failed entitlement programs—A deafeningly resounding no. Get gov’t and politics out of education—A deafeningly resounding no. Defunding Onadacare—A deafeningly resounding no. Fixing Social Security: A deafeningly resounding no. Fixing Medicare: A deafeningly resounding no. Facilitating the security of America: A deafeningly resounding no.
Perhaps, just perhaps, NPR has been defunded. It remains to be seen.
Now it’s your turn.
If you think that Senator DeMint is a conservative failure then perhaps you should reexamine your premises. Sounds to me like you want a firebrand for a senator, someone with a personality similar to the abolitionist, John Brown.
BTW, Sarah Palin is not a senator and comparing her 'resounding' tweets to DeMint's actual voting record is like when 0bama bragged about voting against the war when he wasn't even in congress.
Back to you.
What has DeMint’s voting record accomplished?
As for his being a big deal Senator—I have not seen anything that he’s actually done. But I don’t mean to pick only on DeMint. The entire bunch of political elites in Washinton—of whatever political hue—needs to be changed out. Our system is broken and needs to be reset. The bums holding national office in Washington have no intention to do anything but sustain their own trough feeding. And they don’t give a damn if it destroys the country or not.
By the way, of all the issues I listed in my original post you failed to name one thing DeMint and the Conservative/Pubbie house majority achieved. Not one thing! How can that record be seen as anything but pathetic?
Oh, and I’m not looking for a firebrand of the John Brown persuasion. But I’d settle for one or two firebrands of the Founding Father persuasion. Sam Adams where are you?
I refuse to engage in the character assissination of Senator DeMint that you seem to enjoy. Also, I will not lump him in with the rest of the vermin, both dem and repub, especially since he has distanced himself from them in public.
Did you bother to look at his voting record? Keep in mind that his is just one vote but it’s solid conservative.
Of course, perhaps you’d rather have another Lindsey Graham........
