Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

It is sucking dry air big time off, of all places, Florida. You can see the dry air feeding into it on the water vapor loop.
Praying for days now, and especially today. My son will be in the barracks, and I warned him to unplug everything and not to touch anything if it floods.
I was just thinking about how God could speak to his heart. Would it be like when he spoke to Elijah.
“He answered. “Lord, you know that I have been very zealous for You. I have done what I could to bring back to You, the children of Israel, who have broken Your laws. I have broken down the altars of Baal and killed with the sword all the false prophets. I have done all this single-handed. I am the only one left who worships and serves You, and now they seek my life to kill it. Lord, what is the use in my living any longer?
“Come here, Elijah,” said the Lord. “Go out and stand on the mountain. I am going to show you something. I will be there, but you will have to find Me.”
As Elijah stood waiting to hear further from God, a strong wind came up, tearing up rock and swirling dust into the air. Elijah listened...but God did not speak from the wind.
Just when things had quietened down again, Elijah felt the earth quake. He watched the mountain shake, witnessing the rocks cascading down the side, tumbling to the valley below. Surely God must be in the earthquake...but all was still. God’s voice did not come booming out of the earthquake.
Suddenly, Elijah turned, hearing a roaring, crackling sound. He felt the heat of a raging fire behind him. He stood watching the fire consume the brush and trees, expecting that God would speak to him from this spectacular fire...but all was silent.
He gave a sigh. Where was God, if not in these sudden bursts of nature—first the wind; then the earthquake; then the fire?
Then, he heard it, a quiet whisper...a still, small voice. Knowing the voice to be GOD’s, he wrapped his face in his mantle, and approached the mouth of the cave.
The whisper came again: “What are you doing here, Elijah?” the voice said. “

Heck, lets blame Gore for everything!!!! Hahahaha.
I’m in suburban MD. Our neighborhood is upper middle. There is no shopping. So, I have little concern about that.
Anyway, German Shepherd and Saturday night special should keep any at bay.
That’s true, we’ve had them here on Long Island as well. But to us, a nor’easter only occurs in winter, with snow.
I don’t think you’ve read far enough.
My daughters inlaws are in Melfa and are staying put
Thank you.
Husband and I are on the coast of Delaware, about 14 miles from the ocean. It's been quite a week here in the swamps of Delaware, quite a week, God Bless.
I wrote an article about our experience because we have not only experienced an earthquake this past week, now the hurricane, Sussex County Delaware, the county that finally threw out Mike Castle in the last election, is being invaded by.....EXTREME MAKEOVER HOME EDITION!!!
Earthquakes, Hurricanes and Extreme Makeover Home Edition, oh my!
Indeed three miles from my house this popular ABC series is building a new home and....go to the link to see the pics! Taken by me...citizen journalist, fighting the elements, the moving earth, the grocery store crowds, to take the pictures ON MY CELL PHONE FROM MY MOVING CAR!!!
You must smile.
For I write a reality TV show column at the link above, called "Facing Reality....(TV)" and what should come to town to cause me grimaces and pain? A TV REALITY SHOW!
Last week it was the earthquake, this weekend the hurricane. The ABC site is going on and on because they're fighting to finish the thing before the hurricane comes. Roads around here blocked and closed (see my pics at the link...did I say that?), fights over local school district hauling the workers to and from the site on taxpayer dime, recipient of stimulus funds in a bit of scandal being the main contractor of the site, hardware store site of locals trying to buy hurricane supplies packed and jammed with cute Extreme Makeover Home Edition dressed in cute white painter overhauls and white hats.
My hope is that this time next week I will be able to stand tall and proud with the wind at my back, and tell the world that in one week, ONE WEEK in this sleepy burg, we survived an earthquake, a cat 2 hurricane and EXTREME MAKEOVER HOME EDITION!
Can you see this show when it airs? Ty Pennington with his bullhorn, shouting to the viewers across the fruited plains that the Home Makeover crew survived an earthquake and hurricane to get that thing built? AND IT'S TRUE!
All documented by this humble citizen journalist. Heh. Praise me very much.
The only problem we’ve ever had with satellite during a hurricane was one exposed cable got a kink due to winds. The other satellite cable was fine. While we would routinely lose satellite reception during a regular old t-storm, never lost reception during a tropical storm. Hope this helps.
Thanks for pointing out the dry air entrapment. That should knock some of the stuffing out of the storm.
Last comments I read say that the eyewall is broken, but I did not see that. Hopefully, New Yorkers will have one more false alarm to complain about, but it is still going to be potent, in the storm surge and waves it has kicked up, and tornadoes will still be a large threat.
The Virginia Beach channels don’t cover much about the Eastern Shore and the Baltimore stations don’t either. Thos 2 stations tend to have more coverage for this part of the shore. I’m right up the road from your daughter’s inlaws, just south of the Maryland line.
The local YMCA announced this morning that they will open to the public on Monday for local folks who need showers.. That Y is located practically next door to the HS and MS at the southern end of Accomack County that are going to be openned as shelters.
A tropical storm watch has been issued from the mouth of the Merrimack River to Eastport ME.
Location ~265 miles SSW of Cape Hatteras NC
Max sustained winds 100 mph, 951mb
Moving N at 14 mph
That's a hard part of parenting sometimes, from my experience, but sometimes the only way they learn.
StormPulse just updated:
Track has shifted slightly to the west after passing Norfolk, within just a couple of miles of going directly over Atlantic City.
To the north, the track has shifted about 30 miles east, showing landfall DIRECTLY over JFK Airport and Jamaica Bay.
Just linked on to this. Maybe it will be helpful. I suppose JC could see some considerable effect, anyway.
