Even for Sarah Palin, there are deadlines.
The former Alaska governor seems to believe that most of the rules of politics dont apply to her that with her media appeal and her grassroots following, she could waltz into the presidential campaign at the 11th hour and make a go of it.
But if she does want to run for president, shell have to get on the ballot. Palin has gestured vaguely at various self-imposed deadlines the latest being late September but there are some drop-dead dates that she cannot escape, starting with Oct. 31.
Thats the day presidential candidates names have to be submitted for inclusion on the primary ballot in Florida. By the next day, candidates have to file for the South Carolina primary ballot along with a $25,000 fee. And the deadlines for other states come fast and furious after that. Its $1,000 by Nov. 18 in New Hampshire. On Dec. 5, thousands of signed petitions are due in Illinois.
It isnt inconceivable that somebody could get into the race as late as the first or second week in October and manage to get it all done, provided they knew what they were doing, said Matt Seyfang, a Democratic lawyer whos handled ballot-access and delegate issues for five presidential campaigns, including Bill Clintons 1992 effort which didnt get started until October 1991. But any later than that, he said, would probably be impossible.

And your purpose in pinging on a post to me was, er, well, what WAS your purpose?
I wanted them to see what you were posting. And they did! LOL
He has my vote for stealth PDS of the year!
“But oh how I would love to see a Palin/Bachman ticket.”
I’ll go out on a limb here and say none of the current/past presidential contenders will be in the #2 spot. Bet money on it! Sarah is sure to have a deep selection of a known Conservative and patriot of immpecible credentials.........by August of 2012 we’ll know who that is for sure........
No I’m not but I’m realistic enough to see that my guy isn’t gaining traction.
I was a Fredhead last time around so...fool me once....yada yada. I will stick with Cain until the end but I’m vetting a second choice. Palin’s in the running but I am losing respect for her. Right now Perry looks better due to the vitriol being spewed by Paulistas and Palinistas toward him. (There aren’t any Romney supporters left standing around here to blame! LOL!)
She calls September/October a “fair timeline for people” and later says “it’s a possibility.....definitely”.
That’s not definitive. That’s not the way a leader talks.
Like a dog whistle. Lol. Got it.
Whatever. If I was Palin I wouldn’t give the press dog food.
You have a nice evening.
I understand your point.
Thanks for the good discourse! It will definitely be an interesting campaign regardless. It just absolutely needs to end with the removal of Zero!!!
Amen!!!
As you point out, one big reason for getting in early is to nail down the big money donations. The little people for the most part are holding onto their money until they see a candidate who excites them. Ron Paul has a bunch of fans who are excited by him, but the rest of the declared candidates do not.
That’s exactly what they will do, and exactly why Palin CANNOT BEAT OBAMA.
