Unless you're talking about the federal gasoline tax, they DON'T pay any taxes. The withholding for Social Security and Medicare are contributions to a public pension system and an old age medical program. That money will all be repaid -- with disastrous consequences for the country -- because no politician will ever renege on a promise to deliver those benefits.

Accepting the premise that FICA is a "tax" allows leftard politicians to have their cake and eat it, too, claiming on the one hand that FICA is a tax when they want to pretend that everybody is contributing to the country, and on the other hand calling the return of the money a solemn guarantee when they want to assure entitlement recipients that it's their money in a trust fund. It can't be both: and it isn't. The money being withheld for FICA is for the benefit of the retiree, and not for the United States of America.
