Accepting the premise that FICA is a "tax" allows leftard politicians to have their cake and eat it, too, claiming on the one hand that FICA is a tax when they want to pretend that everybody is contributing to the country, and on the other hand calling the return of the money a solemn guarantee when they want to assure entitlement recipients that it's their money in a trust fund. It can't be both: and it isn't. The money being withheld for FICA is for the benefit of the retiree, and not for the United States of America.
