Rick Perry: Middle Income Americans Don't Pay Enough Income Taxes [leftist spin, ie, lie]
Forbes ^ | 8/18/2011 | Len Burman

Posted on 08/22/2011 8:50:31 PM PDT by Graneros

I’ve been blissfully off the grid for the past few days, cycling in Western New York. (Allegany State Park is absolutely gorgeous. Made me be glad to be paying taxes in New York State.) I could forget about the debt ceiling fiasco, 9 percent unemployment, the tea party, runaway health spending, global warming, the NBA lockout…

But back in the real world, I learn from newly minted GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry what’s wrong with America—that middle income Americans don’t pay enough taxes. Really.

We’re dismayed at the injustice that nearly half of all Americans don’t even pay any income tax. (Quoted in this terrific Ruth Marcus column.)

We’re apparently not dismayed that more than half of all Americans have been in a 30-year recession with little or no income growth. We’re apparently willing to write off Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes, which are the big federal taxes for low- and middle-income Americans. A family of four earning $30,000 may pay no federal income tax, but it pays $4,590 in payroll taxes (including the employer’s share, which economists believe is ultimately paid by the employee in the form of lower wages). Payroll taxes are much bigger than income taxes for most families.

I've met Santorum several times and do like him.

According to some FReepers, his backing of Specter in his primary against Toomey makes him a RINO unworthy of support as well though.

I like for us to vet our candidates, but I hate seeing us unfairly trash any of them. Way too much of that going on here lately.

Middle Income Americans Don't Pay Enough Income Taxes

That's not remotely what he said.

Who needs MSNBC when we have garbage like this right here on FR? Sheesh.

Look, you are upset about "terms" so why can't you say "federal income tax"?

Try it ~ put yourself in the commanding heights of this debate by using the right words in the right order.

Unless you're talking about the federal gasoline tax, they DON'T pay any taxes. The withholding for Social Security and Medicare are contributions to a public pension system and an old age medical program. That money will all be repaid -- with disastrous consequences for the country -- because no politician will ever renege on a promise to deliver those benefits.

Accepting the premise that FICA is a "tax" allows leftard politicians to have their cake and eat it, too, claiming on the one hand that FICA is a tax when they want to pretend that everybody is contributing to the country, and on the other hand calling the return of the money a solemn guarantee when they want to assure entitlement recipients that it's their money in a trust fund. It can't be both: and it isn't. The money being withheld for FICA is for the benefit of the retiree, and not for the United States of America.

Why do you think they call him Rickey the RINO?

Oh right, the people who pay no income tax are the middle class. I don’t think so.

You can twist these statements anyway you like, but only a fool would listen.

A “real conservative” is appalled by the fact that half of the country pays no taxes. It’s time to start taxing them. Perry is right, and the author of this piece — and you, if you agree with him — are mistaken.

There are excise taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, state income tax..... transfer tax, inventory tax, business tax (for low income business owners).

You appear to have only the vaguest imagination regarding taxes. NO ONE GETS OUT OF PAYING TAXES!

Get over it. Sean Hannity has even carefully revised what he says about the matter ~ and admits that FEDERAL PERSONAL INCOME TAX is only part of the source of TAX REVENUES for the federal government.

If you read the entire speech which can be found here.

You'll see that quote was taken out of context.

Actually, it no longer matters which party is in control. Our debt is so large now that they can only fight over how slowly to pay it off.. Forget about actually paying for anything else - including all so called social programs.

The only options are to flood the system with money and inflate or reduce all benefits. What do you think will be the actual outcome?

he can go pound salt. government needs to shrink and stop making demands like this. Ron Paul is good, but I know a lot of people believe he is not electable.

I think the problem is that 50% of the people are still paying income tax. It is an evil tax that was originally unconstitutional. It should have stayed that way.

Funny thing,

It seems he is just a drive by poster.

Sean Hannity is a lightweight and I couldn't care less about his opinion -- or yours.

Perry as President would have no control over state taxes. Duh. [Congratulations: You have demonstrated Sean Hannity quality thinking.]

Half of the country earning income pays no tax on their incomes. That fact ought to be obvious even to a person who looks to Sean Hannity for "analysis." It's time they started paying.

A "real Conservative" doesn't lie about taxes or use evasive terminology when it comes to taxes ~ so cut it out!

Americans pay too much in taxes for too little. It's time to start some serious tax cuts at all levels and with all kinds of taxes.

Let's see a 50% cut in sales taxes, and a 75% cut in all business inventory and transfer taxes.

In these tough times let's ELIMINATE all fees charged for being a corporation registered to do business (a typical city/council tax).

For every business with less than $5 million gross revenue, reduce depreciation to a 1 year period ~ to reduce the cost of doing business.

Take the focus off "income tax" and place it on the taxes that take place even when you have no income!

You said “I want a real conservative in the WH” then you have a problem. The independents blow around with the wind and there is not enough conservatives and elective office is such a cushy job the only concern for most is reelection.
