Washington, D.C. U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) today released the following statement regarding the end of the Qadaffi regime in Libya:
The end of the Qadaffi regime in Libya is a victory for the Libyan people and for the broader cause of freedom in the Middle East and throughout the world. This achievement was made possible first and foremost by the struggle and sacrifice of countless Libyans, whose courage and perseverance we applaud. We also commend our British, French, and other allies, as well as our Arab partners, especially Qatar and the UAE, for their leadership in this conflict. Americans can be proud of the role our country has played in helping to defeat Qaddafi, but we regret that this success was so long in coming due to the failure of the United States to employ the full weight of our airpower.

Thank you for your service
What garbage. One set of bad guys replaced by another, and probably more anti-american, set of bad guys with links to Al Qaeda. And American taxpayers paid for it. There was no possible upside when we started this non-war-powers-act non-military action. What are these guys thinking?
Shouldn’t that title be more true it it were “John McCain and Butt Boy”
>>> Has anybody yet determined what the politics of the rebels might be? Do we have any idea who they are? Or what they intend to do?
Considering the Libyan rebels are run by our own people I would suppose they know.
This heist was a long time in the making.

He lived in Vienna, Virginia which is five miles from Langley. Vienna is a suburb that is the home to a very high concentration of US govt employees and contractors. A company town really. A close relation of mine who was a senior military officer had his home there.
A 2001 book, Manipulations africaines, published by Le Monde diplomatique, traces the CIA connection to 1987, reporting that Hifter, then a colonel in Gaddafis army, was captured fighting in Chad in a Libyan-backed rebellion against the US-backed government of Hissène Habré. He defected to the Libyan National Salvation Front (LNSF), the principal anti-Gaddafi group, which had the backing of the American CIA.
He organized his own militia, which operated in Chad until Habré was overthrown by a French-supported rival, Idriss Déby, in 1990.According to this book, the Haftar force, created and financed by the CIA in Chad, vanished into thin air with the help of the CIA shortly after the government was overthrown by Idriss Déby.
The book also cites a Congressional Research Service report of December 19, 1996 that the US government was providing financial and military aid to the LNSF and that a number of LNSF members were relocated to the United States.
Who’s next? Namibia?
Thanks much. That helps.
Sorry for the rant. Or maybe I’m not.
Gaddafi’s an evil b@stard. But he’s far from the worst there is. The grand Iranian-dominated Shariah Crescent stretching from North Africa to Central Asia has just come one step closer to realization.
Right now the AM newsies are knowledgably speculating on Libyan democracy and oil futures. I’m getting sick again....
Best of luck to your combat officer son and thank him for me for his service.

Ah, I feel the same way you do. F-It. Remember the Green Beret in the Deer Hunter? F-it. Something happens to my kid, I will become Paul Revere. Do the same.
