I don’t want to completely defend Obama, but is he really as bad as President Carter. Thankfully I was not alive during that era. However, there was gas lines, high interest rates, Iran hostage crisis, high unemployment, among other embarassments. President Obama doesn’t lack deficiencies, but it seems like it was unnecessarily painful to live during the Carter years.
Thats a fair question and I think a good one. I think Obama is worse due to the long term consequences of Obamacare. Maybe you should start a thread with that question?
YES YES YES..
When Carter was thrown out; there was still a country left for Reagan to fix.
Not sure about this time.
For starters; Obama seems intent on taking down the entire world's financial system, not just the US.
I was a teenager during the Carter years, and yes they were unneceessarily painful.
I think Obama is worse. The high unemployment and underemployment is only part of our current problem. The way that Obama has consistently acted against the will and the interests of the people is mind boggling to me. We have not even begun to experience the unintended consequences of the massive 2000+/- page bills that have been rammed through.
I was alive. Obama is worse.
People have no idea how bad this health care law is because it hasn’t been implemented yet.
It’s about to be though.
His deficiencies are different than Carters - their failures are not identical. They are failures nonetheless.
“...but is he really as bad as President Carter.”
He is far worse. President Carter might have felt he was leading a declining American, President Obama wants America to decline.
The 70s was bad, really bad, but at least there was activity.
Now everything is moribund.
And I don’t think Carter hated America and Americans, I think Obama really does. Maybe hate is too strong a word, but his disdain is unmistakeable.
I’m old enough to compare the two presidents. As inept as Carter was, I never had any doubt that he was firmly committed to interests of the United States. I have grave doubts that Obama shares that commitment.

I remember it. The difference between Carter and Obama is simply this. Almost all of Carters agenda was felt directly at the time - his policy was instant failure and Americans had the displeasure of it in real time.
Obama has set much of his agenda in the future. It will be more painful to be sure, but Americans will be blaming someone else for it because it was set on a timer. Like Obamacare (just one example) will not be fully implemented for many years.
he is much worse than carter when you think of the overall effects of his failed policy and degeneration of the American way of life. It is just on hold for a while.
He's worse. Far worse. Carter did some stupid things, but this guy is diabolically adept at doing the worst thing for AMerica, evry time. Moreover, he seems to see no limit to his power, and is driven by what appears to be hatred of Caucasians and Western Civilization. His contempt for protocol and his incessant vacationing make Carter look like Bob Cratchett, as far as work goes, and his living the high life--conspicuously--on the dime of an America with record numbers of unemployed (without cooking the books).
Even Carter wasn't that classless.
At best Obama is an embarassment to the United States of America, at worst, an enemy.
And I fear, when his whole 'messianic' trip falls glaringly flat on its face, I think things will get really ugly.
I survived the Carter administration. Obama is worse.
