After refusing for months to say where he stood, Republican Gov. Rick Perry signed a Texas hate crime bill Friday that strengthens the penalties for offenses against minorities, gays and others.
The James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Act was named for the East Texas black man who was dragged to his death from a pickup truck in 1998 by three white men, including two avowed white supremacists.

This is crap! A hate crime should not be defined as offenses against just minorities but against any citizen.

I can guess you don’t like Perry, but why post a 10 year old story?

Well politics is ugly sometimes. I’m glad he’s in. I’d be happy with Palin, Perry or Bachmann. Reading comments at huffpo in Perry. They’re scared. Call me nuts but I like the idea of another Texan being presdient (other than Ron Paul).
To: SoConPubbie
Ah yes, yet another constitutionally illiterate RINO. Sarah will beat him like a rented mule. Is there a fringe minority group he hasn’t yet pandered??? Gag me with a spoon.

NUTS! I am afraid that Perry will be another boot wearin’ drawlin’ faux conservative.

As an SP supporter this is disappointing.
Murder is murder. Murdering a homo because he is a homo is no worse than murdering an old woman because she was a safe target. I don’t know where SP stands on the hate crimes but I hope she can see through this, OTOH, economy, energy are #1 issues

I can guess you dont like Perry, but why post a 10 year old story? I noticed he's been posting other old stories about Perry as well. I guess he thought we wouldn't notice?
If you don't like him, don't vote for him. But don't go around posting old stories like it's todays news.

It is so astounding how many on FR are determined to bring down Gov. Perry, a fabulous candidate who can defeat Obama next year. In fact, they are doing nothing but HELPING Obama get re-elected.
I see nothing wrong with that bill.......no one should be discriminated against. If you are a Christian, would you prefer to be discriminated against because of your faith? It isn’t a one-sided street, folks.
What many of us love about Gov. Perry so much is that he can bring so many people from all parts of the GOP together and also win over the independents, in addition to sharing conservative values!

You have talent for digging up info about Perry that is a decade old. Can you also post Obama’s transcripts or articles or anything about his academic prowess? I think we have his voting record in the Senate—”present”.

Gee, what a timely article. Published on:

Did his position on this change?
I could find no evidence of that, if I had, I would not have posted this article.
If his position has not changed, if he did not admit this was a terrible mistake, then it is fair game and should give us insight into how this conservative poseur thinks. It should also give you pause if you are or thinking about supporting Perry.

It's more some sort of vendetta with these guy. Long nights looking through every Liberal website trying to dig up dirt on Conservative candidates.
Maybe they are applying for a position at DU or Daily Kos?

More 10+ year old spam. From the LATimes , no less. Did his position on this change?

Who cares if it is from the LA Times, it is not denigrating Rick Perry, just reporting the facts.
Quit being an apologist for Rick Perry and stick to being a conservative.
