Near what it is worth - about $50 with fees.

"God helps them what helps themselves".....and,
"Pray for wind, but keep rowing!"

And while there may be no atheists in foxholes, there certainly are troops. And this is war.

The stain and his regime are going to come at us with every attack, every dirty trick, every lie, every spin, every subtrefuge they can conceive, The stain and his regime are going to make the race card look like a JV wrestling match. We are going to see things and be hit with things we can't even imagine.

It is up to us. We must do the fighting; it is going to be a long, dirty war, but we have (or soon will have) a leader we can respect, believe in, and follow willingly. We will feel fear during this time, but as General Patton said, "Courage is fear holding on a minute longer."

We will hold on...and fight...all the way to Nov., 2012.

I know a well off guy who just bought a $160,000 Ford GT. He is a Florida resident living in MN for 5 months out of the year. For fun he called MN and ask them how much to license that $150,000 car for a year in MN - the answer was $2,700. It cost him $500 to license it in Florida for a year.....

I have a wonderful idea. If the tax situation is so much better in Florida why not move there. I know, you probably can not get the same job there as you can in MN. There are trade offs for everything. MN is going to have many more expenses dealing with roads in the winter, somebody has to pay for them. Do you not think the people who use the roads pay rather than those who do not?

I think MN could probably rival them in the mosquito part.

Minnesoooooootans tell me that theirs are like dive bombers. :)

I’ve never been there so I have to take their word for it. LOL!

It’s been so dry here in Texas that I’ve only been bitten by
one mosquito this year.

True, FR is becoming an unhappy place to hang out as solid conservatives are trashed if they don’t meet the purity test of the most extreme level. Ronald Reagan would not have this crowd’s approval.

Well they’d use another pejorative to throw at her instead of the fire in the belly as that would be so unbelieveable. They’d say she was just promoting herself for fame or money at the expense of the party and that the GOP should denounce her or tell her to step down.

Yes. Taxes are better in Florida. That is why so many business owners and wealthy people give up their MN residency and move to Florida for a bit over 6 months out of the year. Now if Democrats had not made MN so uncompetitive on taxes and these business and wealthy had stayed in MN, taxes wouldn’t have to be so high on all of us.

As far as taxes for the roads: We have been told that is why MN fuel tax per gallon is $.27 per gallon, 20th highest in the nation. Then we have a 5 to 8% state income tax, real estate taxes of about 1.2% of value, sales tax of 7.125% or higher, and of course fees, fees, fees on everything you do.

Actually the Fred Thompson story was one that the media cooked up and liberals repeated it often enough to where even conservatives, well actually republicans just parroted it to other conservatives that he had no fire in the belly and had no chance to win so when the primaries started they voted for dopes like Romeny and hucklesby

Because seven years ago, he joined Bush and the party leadership and supported Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey.

It was a capitulation and certainly a mistake. But to hold it against him for the rest of his life is a little nutty. He’s a good man and he brings a lot to these debates. I’m glad he’s there.

toll roads generate a lot of $$$$ for road maintenance.

I’m sure they will try to come up with some meme, but fire in the belly is DOA. If that woman campaigns with the intensity she showed in that interview, she is going to be hell on wheels! We’ve never really seen Palin in full campaign mode. Every time she started to get into her groove in 2008, McCain’s people reined her in. Some of the Alaskan Freepers have said it is a sight to behold.

If condoms were public parks there could be fees. But they aren’t.

Republicans who win statewide office in states that have been liberal for decades are to be suspected.

Reagan was the biggest of all. I guess it is better to just have the states continue electing Democrats. We will never have all 50 states Republican with your attitude.

Are there any toll roads in MN? I did not know that, but that is still another example of if you want the convenience of using them, pay for them, if you do not drive by another route.

Huntsman should be the next to drop out.

I think Gingridge, Santorum, and Cain should drop out too. Let’s just keep Bachmann, Sarah, Romney, Perry and Paul. The others were insignificant. This will be the grown ups at the table with the final 5.

You have a combined vehicle registration and property tax.

You should have said so.

Not every state has that system.

Unbelieveably short-sighted and downright vengeful.

I was here on FR when that the Specter/Toomey thing happened, didn't agree with it but understood that it was traditional politics, and watched people lose their minds over it in rage and near insanity.

But to still be so angry that you don't see Santorum for who he really is - a rock solid, principled conservative, and the most openly and strongly pro-life candidate in the field......

That's more than 'a little nutty.' It's just plain stupid.

Thanks for the insight, Whistling. Unbelieveable.

That is the most absurd car registration scheme I’ve ever heard of. It wreaks of European Socialism. Here in PA it is $36. From a Rolls Royce to a Vega, it is the same.

I know all about the taxes in MN. I grew up there. They were bad then and they are worse now. MN winters though make a difference. I go up usually about twice a year and they are always having to repair roads due to frost boils and other winter related problems.
While I do not like user fees, I do feel they are more fair than taxes. They only affect the people using the services provided. If I do not use the state parks why should I have to subsidize them. Taxes should be used only for services that are absolutely needed by everybody,(police, national security, etc.). The rest should be paid for by those who use them.

It’s the wise thing to do. He can bow out now, gracefully, after giving it his best shot. He’ll preserve his dignity, and his future political viability - even for near term options, such as cabinet posts, senatorial ambitions, or perhaps even as a potential veep choice for the right campaign.
