Bachmann is doing very well.

I agree. Bachmann defended herself when attacked, just as Palin would have. Both strong women that can be counted on to defend themselves.

I wasn't impressed by Pawlenty, Huntsman and forget about Paul! I thought Santorum did ok and Newt did a great job, but he can't escape his past.

No they won't because we Christians are their most hated enemy (and we know why!).

But HE who is in us is greater than he who is in them, and that is where our confidence can be. I know that Michele (and Sarah, and Rick, etc.) all know that.

Shying away from the debates is not a tactic that wins

I agree. If you are not there, you are not gaining any votes. Choosing to skip practice and sit on the bench all through the game, you can't expect the coach to let you play the last call of the game.

Scorecard

1 Cain
2 Santorum
3 Bachman
4 Gingrich
5 Paul
6 Huntsman
7 Romney
8 Pawlenty

Nice list, but it doesn’t seem very objective.

The winner was Gingrich, not that that means much to a lot of us here.

I would give Bachmann 2nd with Cain right behind her and Santorum behind Cain.

Then you get the second tier with their ick factors.

Really hard to even place them, but I guess Pawlenty, Romney, Huntsman and then Paul.

I like Cain, but, he didn’t win the debate, sorry.

I meant to say, if Palin doesn’t RUN, say hello to Romney. All he had to do was just act presidential.

At least he showed up.

I would like for Palin to participate in the debates. You aren't going to improve your numbers and have a chance to win if you are not on the ballot or avoid the debates.

I wish she were stronger on illegal immigration and wasn't for path to citizenship, but, its hot unusual for candidates to fine tune their positions so there is still some hope there.

Unfortunately though there are a lot of undecideds out there yet and their memory of her is going be Tina Fey on SNL. The debates could help her overcome that.

If she decides not to run I hope she endorses either Cain or Bachmann.

I don’t dislike the candidates you mentioned personally, but I don’t think they are qualified to be president, now if one of them does become nominee, I will hold my nose and vote for him/her - afterall, who is not better than Obama. I take back what I said about Cain, he’s a good man and offered some sensible answers but I standby the rest of my opinion.

Newt won the debate last night, but we all know his problems and a nomination just isn’t likely.

So I am a troll because I’m a newbie and disappointed at this crop? Go out and ask millions of unhappy republicans why they sat out of recent elections, see how much they like the guys stood on stage yesterday.

Seems like the only genuine thing we can all agree on is our desire to get rid of Obama in 2012, but nothing beyond that.

On the subject of submission, left extremists think it is a woman thing. Those of us who understand Christianity know it is a person thing. Everyone is in submission. Christ came to do the will of the Father. Husbands are to submit to Christ, wives to husbands, and children to parents. It’s about order, as all of nature has order, so the natural family. Chaos is what develops when nature is no longer submissive to the Creator. It would be a truly happy productive world if the Creator of nature was submitted to in all things.

Isn’t it interesting that most left extremists will admit the importance of the military, but will never even notice the submission role embraced by all those in the military?

I very much doubt that 'millions of unhappy republicans' found every single person in that debate 'pathetic' as you did.

It's far more likely that millions of Republicans thought some of did very well, and that every single one of them (Paul excepted) is a superior candidate to John McCain.

Ron Paul was the only pathetic person on that stage, and he's not really a Republican at all. He's just used the Republican party to keep himself in office for 11 pathetic terms.

At least you say you agree that we need to get rid of Obama.

In my 35 years of marriage, I have said over and over again that it is not at all difficult to submit to a man who is submitting to Christ. Even those of us whose natures are decidedly UNsubmissive, don't have trouble following the Biblical directive (in its proper context of mutual submission).

Good point about the military and the left (though there are a number on the left who abhor the military).

The left is very confused because it believes that human reason is the ultimate authority, and they must submit to no one. (That's why there are so few leftists among our troops).

Ron Paul lost the debate when he called Americans busy bodies. True conservatives don’t want another anti-American in the White House.

Nope..not even close....he’s just too wired and too old...and his international polices suck...not to mention several of his moral issues....nope. Besides he’s not going to make it far enough to win. I sometimes think they keep him in a warm spot just to make the others shine all the brighter.

I was watching the live broadcast with Sarah at the fair, she all but said she’s not running folks, get over it. Even the guy broadcasting (can’t remember) his name said her langauge was basically that she’s not running and looking toward who she might endorse. Sarah said she like Perry or even Romney, oh vey ....

What was the date of this encounter/interview you saw? Can't find it online. Do you have a link? I'd like to see what she says.

I found something of her at the Iowa Fair where she says something about "We'll have to figure it out," which frankly doesn't sound too good to me. But you're so sure. Like to see what you saw to make you think that.

If she doesn't run, right now it looks like Romney unless Rick Perry can pull a rabbit out of his hat.

“I’m somewhat disappointed in FReepers who wanted this to be some softball contest.”

I don’t think anyone wanted a softball contest - God knows that’s ALL BHO has ever gotten from the MSM. But to me, asking about losing campaign staffers (over the years, other candidates have gone through campaign difficulties of all types), submitting to spouses, or questions about moats and religion that were either taken out of context to begin with or misquoted, just wasted precious time (that was too short anyway) rather than ask all the candidates an equal amount of substantive questions on their policies and how they’d differ from BHO as president.

They definitely gave too much play to Ron Paul (also letting him talk overtime after just denying Santorum the same courtesy), and I think it was for entertainment purposes, along with his fans yelling and loudly jeering at opponents throughout, with no admonition from the panel whatsoever, only smirks. It was often disruptive and just plain wrong.

I had no problem with Bret Baier, he’s a professional. But Chris Wallace is another story. On Fox News Sunday, his bias always shows - against conservatives. Hume or Goldberg, both outstanding news veterans, would’ve done a much better job. Byron York’s biblical/marital question to Bachmann, dredging up something out of context that she said years before, was snarky as well - on a couple of levels.

In each case, however, the audience made their thoughts known.

Sorry, your scorecard is wrong.

Scorecard.

1. Mainstream Media.

The list ends there. I had to dvr the debate since I’m actually an employed American, so few of us these days, but I was truly disgusted by the questions, the time given to Ron Paul, the guy who’s been in congress for how long and accomplished nothing?, the petty attacks and the admitting by the panel that this was totally made for tv.

Newt at LEAST stood up to the idiots asking the questions.

We need a republican with testicles. Is there one out there???????????????
