Michele Bachmann
Bachmann is serving her 3rd full term in the U.S. House. Founder of the House Tea Party Caucus, she earned a Master of Laws degree, worked as a tax attorney, and was a foster mother for 23 teenagers. She is a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Herman Cain
Cain is the former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza and former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He lost the Georgia Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat in 2004. He was recently the host of Atlanta-based radio show.
Newt Gingrich
Gingrich served as the 58th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999. He represented Georgia's 6th congressional district as a Republican member from 1979 to 1999. He has a PhD in modern European history.
Ron Paul
Paul is serving his 11th full term in the U.S. House. He’s an obstetrician-gynecologist and was the Libertarian nominee for president in 1988. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for president in 2008
Tim Pawlenty
Pawlenty served two terms as governor of Minnesota, from 2002 to 2010. He served in the Minnesota House from 1992 until 2002. He is the son of a truck driver.
Mitt Romney
Romney was the 70th Governor of Massachusetts (2003 to 2007) and former CEO of Bain Capital, a private equity investment firm. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican 2008 nomination for president. He has an MBA (Harvard) and JD (Harvard Law).
Rick Santorum
Santorum served two terms in the U.S. House and two terms in the U.S. Senate. He became the Senate's third-ranking Republican in 2001. He was defeated for reelection in 2006.
Jon Huntsman
Huntsman was Utah Governor, former ambassador to China under Barack Obama.

I agree. Cain impressed me the most.
Oh, her ideas would could definitaly beat Obama. I would love to see a President Sarah Palin. But she needs to improve her debating skills (as do all these candidates except Newt and maybe Romney)and participating in these debates is what improves the candidate’s debating skills.
Obama’s a good talker! He can say a bunch of nothing and make it sound good. That skill helped him win in 2008. You’re not going to attend 2 primary debates and be ready to debate Obama. He’ll run circles around you, win the debates and then win the election.
I think he is back. As far as his indiscretions go, I will defer to Jefferson.

I just posted this too...Perry coming in late should certainly give Palin a pass as well...and I liked the idea you said this debate was ..."the battle for the first among losers"....I do believe you're on to something there.
I was once told when going to a dance....say no to all those who ask first because the cream of the crop sits back to see how you're going to handle the jerks.

I think Santorum was a cut above all of them.
I thought Newt did the best and if the nomination were solely based on this debate, he would get it...unfortunately, there is the side of Newt we know and precisely why he will not.
Romney did not hurt himself and that was his goal. For him, the bickering between some of the other candidates even worked to his advantage as he was above the fray.
Santorum did well but he was unseated as a senator which will not work in his favor.
Cain I have always liked but he is letting himself be protrayed as someone who was not prepared for the issues when he joined the campaign.
Pawlenty...no splash there.
Paul looks like a nut case because he flails around spouting too many words on different ideas at the same time, no focus.
Backman...hard to jump from Congress to the presidency...very intransigent on issues which is good on moral issues but not so good on other issues which will require forging agreements where each side gets something.
Huntsman...kind of bland and his being in the (.)bama camp is a negative.
I am not going to rate who won the debate, by my sense is this is the current rankings:
First tier: Romney, Perry (even though not in), Backman in that order.
Close second: Cain Gingrich and Paul due to his psycho following.
Out of the running: Santorum Pawlenty and Huntsman.
I look for either Romney or Perry to be the final candidate.
I wish Rubio would run!
Yep....and I think she realizes this too. Might be also why she'd layed back for a time. She's got to be quick on her feet...none of them outside of Newt could do so tonight. Responses were measured at best.
She said she would never run a *traditional campaign*.

Sarah Palin (not by her fault)has been considered a candidate for 2012 since before 2010. These candidates (most of which I do not like) are improving their debating skills with every debate that happens. If Palin were actually running it would appear to the voters that Palin may be avoiding the debates to minimize committing gaffes.
Me, I would love to see a President Palin. Her proposals are exactly what America needs. I'd vote for her in a second.
But what concerns me is that (if she's planning on running) she's not taking advantage of the debates to get her agenda known and also to improve her debating skills.
It's kind of like the rabbit and turtle story. If you know about that, you cannot possibly disagree with me.
Get real. Bambi can't think on his feet, and TOTUS cannot keep up with the Grizz. Nope. Nope.
Herman Cain has an awesome history. His accomplishments make him the best man for the job.
with the minor exception that you totally ignored the candidate who will be the nominee.
There are othersout there considering running as well. I am just tired, tired, tired of the same few words every single day, whether it’s a bachmann supporter, a Perry supporter, whoever. AND I have laid off bachmann for a while now just to see how she goes. Tonight did it. She is not presidential material and I don’t care who says what anymore. THAT is my opinion and I was sort of hoping I was wrong, but tonight proved I’m not. That’s it.
Perry, I don’t know yet. I will wait and watch and listen. He will get his shot, but his closeness to bigtime muslims has already made me a little queasy..
I know...it was very disappointing, he really doesn't take any crap and can stand against the best of them...would dance circles and then some around Obama.
