Marriage -- It Really Is a Beautiful Thing
Fox News.com ^ | August 10, 2011 | Steven Crowder

Posted on 08/10/2011 12:59:00 PM PDT by Kaslin

Yes folks, I think that marriage is pretty important. That however, is really just an opinion. I came to said opinion this weekend, when my good-hearted (albeit hairy) brother said “I do.”

Sure, I’d attended weddings before, but this was the first time that I’d witnessed two young adults truly do it properly.

They weren’t shacking up, and my brother "wasn’t milking any cows" (to quote my grandmother).

As my brother’s luminescent face transitioned to a cousin Eddie-like expression of anticipation, every single one of us in attendance understood that we were witnessing something special, something meaningful.

In my opinion, that’s a beautiful thing.

What’s not a matter of opinion, however, is that when it comes to marriage, we’ve all been lied to. Far from the miserable, broke, sexless life that it’s made out to be, the life of today’s married man is more fulfilling than any lonely, self-pleasing, single guy could hope for. So to all of you cads and good-time gals out there, read on and take note.

Myth Number One: Over Half of Today's Marriages Fail!

Social leftists love to perpetuate this lie (about marriages failing) and for one simple reason; if you can devalue the practice of marriage by deeming it nothing more than a hopeless crapshoot of an endeavor, you can, then, open the floodgates to manipulating both its standards and importance in society.

"And in both the cases of marriage and freedom, the concept came from God, and is, therefore, a GOOD thing.

Let me see if I got this right.
1. Marriage and freedom are analogous.
2. They both came from God.
3. Only good things come from God.
4. Therefore Marriage is always a good thing, even when it's bad.

Do you lay awake at night coming up with this drivel?
Jeebus, no wonder this country is going down the crapper...

You of course are going to come back at me with: Lousy sex is not “no sex.”.

Nah. Maybe I'm getting too old and don't watch any touchy-feely gay shows.
The only reports I've ever read in the paper or seen on the news is that married people live longer and have more contented sex lives.
So any media reports I've ever been exposed to have stated the opposite of the article in this posting.
That's why (among other things) I believe the article is crapola.

Congratulations on 40!!! We will have 38 in Feb. I always said I married my best friend. We have done everything together except when he was on deployment or traveling on the job. When the kids were grown, I traveled with him. Plan to keeping this one!!!

Actually, I would guess that the majority of decent conservatives would have that reaction to your jaded views, and not my logical thought process.

Good luck with the cynicism thing. I'm beginning to think that you weren't telling the truth about your own marriage.

Just a hunch....

I am pleased that we are not alone. ;>)

We will be at 41 in November, then only 9 more years to 50. If I make it, she promises to marry me a second time, so that we can start it all over again. ;>)

I’m thinking a garden wedding... that our 2 kids and 7 grandchildren pay for. LOL

A few years back a study was done on the sex shown on TV (actually, I think it was back in the '90's, and things have gotten worse since then).

Of all the sexual scenes shown, the vast majority of them (something like 90% - I'll see if I can find the study somewhere), were unmarried sex. The popular culture pretends that married sex doesn't even exist.......except for Cliff and Claire Huxtable and John and Olivia Walton. :)

If you haven't seen TV or movies, or read anything about what's really been shown and how perverted and biased against marriage it is, then you really can't critique the article with any veracity.

Your understanding of popular culture is too limited for you to grasp what the article was talking about.

btw, your list of presumptions and silliness in your post to me was far more 'crapola' than this article is.

Last comment to you.....Marriage is GOOD. God created it, God is in it, God nurtures it, and God blesses it.

I’m praying my grandpa’s blessing is also mine.

Sounds like it will be, cause you WANT it to be!

Knowing the facts, facing and understanding reality is not cynicism, my friend.
And yes, my wife and I are among the lucky ones. But then we both grew up in poor immigrant families so we had compatible cultural values when it came to work, finances, et al, - we both worked hard as kids, worked our way up in entry level positions, bought our home when I was 21 (she was 20), saved our money (e.g. no vacations), had 2 great kids, we both earned our undergraduate and graduate degrees parttime while working (she at home), became successful in the business world and are enjoying a great and prosperous retirement with some wonderful grandchildren.
Both our kids are equally successful and happily married.
We still like and love each other as much as we ever did. And as importantly, because we both worked hard to achieve what we did, we have great respect for each other
So why wouldn't we be happy?

Then you DO understand that marriage is a good thing, and the fact that some people get it wrong doesn't change the reality that marriage is a gift from God for our pleasure, and 'a beautiful thing.'

Glad to see you come around. ;*)

Michelle said YES!
She was SO surprised!!!

Praise God!
May His hand be upon our vows.

Her new nic-name is “Jump”, because all she has been jumping up and down with such a huge smile and outrageous laughter. I can see the little girl inside of her, who always believed in fairy tales. They DO come true.

And Gator, Michelle and I laugh to tears together. We are like kids.
