Two GOP Senators Survive Wisconsin Recall Elections
Millions invested in elections for six GOP senators in what could be 2012 battleground state
By Tom Curry
At least two Republican state senators survived recall elections as votes were counted Tuesday night in Wisconsin in state Senate races which have gained national attention.
The two Republican winners were state Sen Robert Cowles and state Sen. Sheila Harsdorf.
Democrats, organized labor and progressive groups were using the recall effort to seek retribution against six GOP Senate allies of Gov. Scott Walker who enacted a labor law overhaul that ended collective bargaining rights for many public sector workers.
Walker and his allies also enacted a voter identification law and a redistricting plan, which is being challenged in court.
With the split in Wisconsins Senate at 19 Republicans and 14 Democrats, a net turnover of three would change party control.
In the 2010 elections, Walker won the governors office while the GOP gained four seats in the Senate, giving them the majority.

No the recall vote for a couple of democrats is a few days from now,
Of course, but there’s a very good chance the GOP will knock Jim Holperin out next week, gaining at least 1 seat back.
Who in WI with an even marginally-functioning brain could vote to put more Democrats in charge? Especially after this week...
Lying Dem supporters on the MSNBC board.
No shortage of brain-dead dupes in Wisconsin...or anywhere for that matter.
Thank you very much!
You gotta start watching MSNBC.
These guys are in full spin mode.
Now talking about how if they only get two that some RINO up there may do the right thing and vote with the dems. Sheesh!
This night is a repudiation of Unions, Dems and Obama
read the comments at the link... it’ll make ya wanna turn the firehoses on the hippies
Democrat winners will be celebrating in a motel room in a nearby state.
It just goes to show how lame they really are. Then their are those of us that, oh well, never mind.
If the voters are to stupid to understand a turn around, God would be their only answer. Voting for a downgrade in credit will smack them square in the face if the voters give the socialist dems any more power. TN is now under review because we accepted Obama’s stash.
Darling will win this - much of Milwaukee has reported and most of Waukesha has not - I love whoever is running Waukesha county - they waited until the very end in the Prosser election to post totals and it really pissed off the dems when they thought they had won but had indeed lost. I think they are doing it again tonight!
Correct!
Come on. Give me a break. It’s late I’m bored :)
Looks like 3 Districts may be a problem 8,10 and 32.
“Who in WI with an even marginally-functioning brain could vote to put more Democrats in charge? Especially after this week...”
The Reps were outspent 20:1 (in the one case that I heard). It sure would help if the national Republicans would send a few pennies their way, instead of leaving them to fend for themselves.
Expected.
MSNC reports:
“In recall elections Tuesday in Wisconsin which gained national attention, control of the state Senate hung in the balance as votes were tallied in two close races.
At least three Republican lawmakers survived the Democratic recall effort. The three GOP winners were Sen. Robert Cowles, Sen. Sheila Harsdorf and Sen. Luther Olsen.
But most at risk as voting started Tuesday appeared to be three other Republicans, Alberta Darling, Randy Hopper and Dan Kapanke, all of whom barely won their races in 2008.
Kapanke lost Tuesday to Democrat Jennifer Shilling, who got 55 percent of the vote.”
