Is America Ready for 'George W. Bush on Steroids'?
The Atlantic ^ | AUG 6 2011 | JOSHUA GREEN

HOUSTON -- The days leading up to "The Response," Texas Gov. Rick Perry's prayer rally at Reliant Stadium, had looked a little grim for the governor and the event's organizers. Only about 7,000 people had confirmed that they would attend a venue that seats 71,500, and the controversial roster of sponsors -- including the American Family Association, which is labeled a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center -- drew as much attention as the event's stated purpose of praying and fasting for the nation's improvement.

I thought the day's shrewdest political insight came from Dr. Richard Land, the former president of the Southern Baptist Convention and a sixth-generation Texan, who I bumped into in the hallway after Perry spoke. "If he runs, he'll be a strong candidate," Land told me. "He's a charismatic figure. I think about him on stage with the other candidates and he'll stand out. He's not a wallflower. But the most interesting question for me is whether the country is ready for somebody who looks and sounds like George W. Bush on steroids."

George W. Bush on steroids? Do we want an extremely compassionate conservative who wants to spend vast amounts of money?

I'm not a Bush basher. Busher was hugely better than Obama. However, I think it is undeniable that Bush made fundamental mistakes. I'm not looking for Bush on steroids. I'm looking for Reagan. And she hasn't declared yet.

I refuse to vote for another TEXAN (no offense to tea party patriots from the Lone Star State), who ‘talks a good game’ and then hides when the RATs say “boo” on immigration!

Is he the conservative Dubya pretended to be or just another governor from Texas? If it’s merely the latter, I’ll pass.

Please do not lose sight of the fact that Obama and the Democrats are the REAL ENEMIES of America and must be defeated at all costs.

We’d be better off after all the libs and progressives either go hari-kari or move to Canada after the next election.

False prophets seem to pop up daily. I agree, if you loved GW Bush you’ll love Rick Perry! He’s primed for amnesty, the NAFTA Highway, a “boy next door” Globalist with a background as a cheerleader. He should do very well with the groupie crowd. But wait! We’ve already got one of those in the White House.
