At the same time, a youth attacked a car two in front of us. He broke the driver-side window, kicked the car and reached inside. The car pulled out to escape the attack. The car in front of me then pulled forward and hesitated. Worried that the mob might come around to the passenger side of my car and attack my wife, I pulled around the car in front of me, crossed over lanes and turned onto a freeway ramp to make sure we were out of there.

If I ever responded to this situation the way he has, my wife and kids would leave me out of embarrassment.

That’s very true... few black people would take an attack from a black punk lying down. Their response would not just be no but HELL no.
Shoot, these folks wouldn’t have even countenanced pepper spraying the blighters, much less shooting them. (And in many cases, the attacker flees upon even seeing a gun.)

I'm white, and I know I can't relate to whatever it is that incited and enraged those kids. But our conversation on the way home was that we wished we could have taken the kid who hit me home with us and shown him care, concern and support.

The police could have done a better job. They should have recognized the scope of the situation, and then separated and escorted the mob out and away from the park. To shuffle them out and still leave them in a group was a mistake. I recognize they likely had limited numbers, but that's why they have horses, guns, squad cars and backup.

Alright, I'm putting on my flame-retardant (is that term still PC?) suit. This libby has a point, but he does not realize it. I teach at a public high school and I see it first hand. My best guess is that most of these yoots were not raised by a mother and a father, but by a mother or a grandmother (who obviously did not do a great job with her own kids). I have stats to back that up, as it is no secret that 70% of black males have no father in their lives. Because of this, they have been given a free education, free meals at school, free food cards, free clothing, free housing, free utilities, free cable, and free cell phones. Even their fines and fees at school were waived because they did not have the income to pay for the books that they damaged.
Now, as to Mr. Libby wanting to take them home, he has a point that if these thugs had been nurtured in a proper home environment with a mother and a father this probably would not have happened. Of course, he sees it as a problem that can be fixed now, not a problem that needed addressed two or three welfare generations ago. He also makes a point for entitlement reform, yet he is too foolish to see that also. If most of these yoots are the product of entitlements, isn't this proof that entitlements don't work?

It's a very serious mental disease and, though in some cases curable, in most cases it can't be touched, even with the largest doses of evidence and reality to the contrary.
