But no, they want to screw over the Military and Medicare which is already screwed over by the new Health reform Bill.

"If Congress does not approve those cuts by late December, automatic across-the-board cuts go into effect, including cuts to Defense and Medicare".

No taxes increases = good, but without tax cuts, this is epic fail.

Usually, tax cuts improve the economy and increase revenue(Laffer curve), but I am not so sure this time. The business climate is so bad, with so many new agencies able to author arbitrary economic restrictions, tax cuts alone may not pull us out of the doldroms.

We are close to being in a depression, and we must look at the reasons why investors are not investing in America. Business Tax Policy is only one of many concerns.

I would be interested in understanding your statement a bit more. Perhaps I misunderstood your intentions. Thx!

If any of your post is true, the Republican's are TOAST in 2012.

Why do we even bother voting for them if this is the "best" they can do? My God, they had Obama over a barrel and once again they somehow managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory (assuming your post is accurate.)

Now more than ever, I think my tagline's exactly right.

I think Obama started feeling the heat and he flinched. This isn't the greatest, but I can live with it. I want to see the fine print.

"If you have cuts of $1 trillion plus, why raise the debt ceiling?"

Liberals like Alan Colmes say it's because the government has already spent the money and by law must still be able to pay their bills...

We should declare victory and call it a day.

2.8 TRILLION FOR A LITTLE OVER 1.5 YEARS, WHY DO WE HAVE A REPUBLICAN HOUSE AGAIN????? SOMEONE PLEASE REMIND ME!!

Remind you of what? That we sort of have the House including RINOs and a unimpressive Speaker and we don't have the Senate or the Presidency? I am not sure what you expected. BBA will get a vote and that's all it was ever going to get unless you think somehow Boehner was going to decree it. There are no tax increases that I know of but we'll see. It sounds like we are stuck in a holding pattern of the status quo until 2012 and we can get greater numbers. Without the votes you can't do much. This is about what I expected as I didn't expect much from Boehner

...but the Democrats get what they want in that it will not require a second debt ceiling hike before Obama’s re-elecetion as $2.8 trillion should last well into 2013.

....but if the Republicans play it right and OK enough new Rat and/or Zer0 spending packages, we could reach the new ceiling by Sept. 2012.

Republicans should NOT have gone along with a long term increase, only 3-6 months to give more time for negotiations.

This gets Obama past Nov 2012 elections.

the ONLY REAL PROGRESS is NO DEAL. ..... FREEZE THE CEILING NOW. That will give US a balanced budget. ...... otherwise it is a Ten Year B.S. plan that will raise taxes now and cut spending never......FREEZE IT NOW!!!!

CUTS???? WHAT CUTS??? A non increase is most certainly NOT a cut!

They've agreed to partially defund the Spanish-American war effort.

I am not happy with the solution

I'm pretty happy with it.

Boehner & Cantor got everything they wanted all along which shows that the momentum is on the side of the House.

Not only did they get what they wanted, but they got more.

They got:

A) the deal in 2 parts (not even part of the original agreement) which takes us further into the year keeping the discussion of cuts in the headlines...a good thing.

B) they even got a guaranteed vote on the BBA which very few people even dreamed would happen a couple of weeks ago.

Perhaps the BEST part of the deal...Obama CAVED bigtime and the left is going to be livid with him. This deal weakens Obama significantly. Just go to DU...there is hardly one positive comment about Hussein among the left-wing crowd tonite.

And any hints/talk about Obama invoking the 14th Ammendment was obviously just a bluff...

LOL yeah, that was always a flimsy bluff. If Hussein actually tried that it would be the end of his presidency. He'd lose in court, look like some sort of 3rd world dictator, OWN the debt more than he does now, etc. The Republicans would be able to completely wash their hands of the bad economy and the imminent ratings downgrade.

The whole 14th amendment thing was fantasy from that portion of the left who can't accept they are losing the debate and are determined to avoid ANY cuts in government at all costs.

Across the board cuts are stupid and damaging — other than also cutting important areas, it doesn’t make the government face the priorities, to cut fraud, waste and abuse and useless programs and departments.

Wouldn’t that be a kick in the teeth if the tea party and dems shoot this down in the house. Then obama would definitely be at fault for the dee fault. But that won’t happen. The house dems will vote for whatever obama wants.

Of course there's no default - just gargantuan cuts of 45%... and it would be a kick. Dems will hate this. It will be close.

Another kick? House Dems pushing obama under the bus and not passing it. LOL

If this is really a deal it’s only a WH-Senate deal is my guess

So you dont have to go to link, this is the entire article :

ABC News has learned that Republicans and the White House have struck a tenative deal to raise the debt ceiling before the Aug. 2 deadline. It’s not done yet, but here is the framework of the tentative deal they have worked out, according to a source familiar with the negotiations:

•Debt ceiling increase of up to $2.8 trillion
•Spending cuts of roughly $1 trillion
•Vote on the Balanced Budget Amendment
•Special committee to recommend cuts of $1.8 trillion (or whatever it takes to add up to the total of the debt ceiling increase)
•Committee must make recommendations before Thanksgiving recess
•If Congress does not approve those cuts by late December, automatic across-the-board cuts go into effect, including cuts to Defense and Medicare.

A senior White House aide pushed back against the idea that a deal was struck.

“Talks continue, but there is no deal to report,” the aide said.
