I don't mind being called a radical - but I would prefer to be known as a member of the Samson wing of the Republican Party.

I heard speculation that they were going to cut spending for the men’s room upgrade at exit 54 on the Jersey Turnpike.

That would help drive down the cost of college somewhat. If they stop handing out free money to non-qualified students, colleges would have to compete more for qualified students.

What a pathetic bill. Is this the best Washington can do?

Speaker Boehner has yet to offer a plan that meets the requirements of the Gang of Six or the bipartisan deficit commission

This is the debt deal which was specifically meant only to deal with the debt hike.

And, in addition, more budget deals would be coming, including the real budget for '12 and debate on the Ryan plan.

BTW...did Obama or Reid put for a plan that meets the requirements above? No? So why not mention that?

Rush is RIGHT. Boehner should be WALKING AWAY. Not making stupid little deals that will mean NOTHING in the end.

ALL this will do is give the Dems MORE ammo to use during an election.

In a deep solomn voice: "Congressman DIP STICK voted to CUT Pell Grants. Money to help poot students get a much neede education.: blah blah blah."

Yep...all this will do is give opponents AMMO against our members...for a bill that is destined to FAIL. STUPID!

This is all absurd. So they cut Pell grants as opposed to other things that need cutting.
I think we all need to face the fact the end game is nigh.
All of this is a game that refuses to face reality.
The Credit Downgrade is weeks or at best a few months away.
Once that happens the movement of interest rates starts on federal debt.
All of a sudden paying interest on the debt will start eating up all revenues going to the government. The laws of compound interest will win out in the end.
A default will come, it's now only a matter of time and the time will be short.

They need to define the word cut because....

Baseline Budgeting Makes Real Cuts Impossible in Washington

I’ve talked to a man at the gym on and off for several years. He was a union member and worked as a school counselor in his 20’s. He’s 42 now and hasn’t worked in about 15 years. He has raised two children in student housing at FSU while his wife “works on her doctorate.” Apparently, they’ve gamed the system for grants, housing, sustenance and everything they need. He was telling me about his high-end home theater and audio system. His wife will never graduate. “It’s the life,” he says.

Pell Grants are largely responsible for the increase in tuitions.

Why not show some real cojones and call for the abolition of the Department of Education and send the funding back to the States.

Taxpayers shouldn’t be financing anybody’s college education unless it leads to a job. No more Ethnic/Gender/Basketweaving majors. You can do that on your own dime.

Gee, the Department of Education only costs us $20 billion per MONTH ($240B per year BEFORE any baseline budgeting additions and multipliers). Do you really think we would want to cut any funding for Pell Grants and other education expenditures? They’ve used their money so wisely since the Department of Ed came into existence (what) 40-50 years ago. Surely, this is a Department that should be spared any draconian cuts, right? /sarc

Of all the ridiculous programs in WDC, The Pell Grant program is not one of them I have personally known of people who obtained degrees with Pell Grants completely turning their lives around.

One gal with four kids and a nutcase for a husband was taken under the wing of a couple (conservative)in our church. They helped her get a GED and took her to a community college to speak with a counselor, introduced her to he Pell Grant program. From then on she took off, good grades, on to nearby university for a BS and today is a highly regarded nurse. Her husband is still a leech.
