The tea party's terrorist tactics By: William Yeomans July 29, 2011 08:22 AM EDT

It has become commonplace to call the tea party faction in the House “hostage takers.” But they have now become full-blown terrorists.

They have joined the villains of American history who have been sufficiently craven to inflict massive harm on innocent victims to achieve their political goals. A strong America has always stood firm in the face of terrorism. That tradition is in jeopardy, as Congress and President Barack careen toward an uncertain outcome in the tea party- manufactured debt crisis.

As we stumble closer to Aug. 2, it has become clear that many in the tea party are willing to inflict massive harm on the American people to obtain their political objective of a severely shrunken federal government. Their persistence in rejecting compromise, even as the economic effects of the phony crisis they have created mount, has taken their radicalism beyond tough negotiating, beyond even hostage-taking.

As markets fall in anticipation that there may not be a timely resolution; as credit agencies issue dire warnings that the U.S. political system has become so dysfunctional that a credit downgrade may be inevitable, and as America looks weakened in the eyes of the world, the tea party’s hostage-taking has evolved into the intentional infliction of harm on innocent Americans to achieve a political objective – terrorism.

Terrorism is a tough term, but, unfortunately, it describes tea party tactics precisely. Their first step was to vow not to vote to raise the debt ceiling.

Here, as in many radical factions, there was a split between the purists and the pragmatists. Pragmatists vowed not to raise the ceiling unless draconian cuts were made in the federal government.

Falls in nicely with their “The founders were terrorists too!” line of thinking. Liberals are morons.

“...They have joined the villains of American history who have been sufficiently craven to inflict massive harm on innocent victims to achieve their political goals....”

Whew! I’m glad that we have protectors of our country - like folks who initiate ponzi schemes for our retirement, who took money out of that ponzi scheme when it actually had a surplus (and spent it for more ponzi schemes), who had banks that allowed them to draw out more than they had, who....etc...etc...etc.

Politico, shove it up your smelly corporate Obamas, and go back to school.

Start with simple algebra.

You should get through it in a couple of years and then you can graduate to simple stats.

Anything higher is far, far, FAR above your potential.

There will be plenty of “exploded-head” triage for everybody, I think.

No compromise.

Just sickening. This article is disgusting from top to bottom. We should really avoid this kind of trash in this forum. The insanity of continued debt ceiling increases means nothing to some.

Massive harm is coming to the American people IF the government doesn’t quit spending money. It has to end now. It should not be blamed on the Tea Party just because they are pointing out exactly what needs to be done. The problem is that the status quo doesn’t want to stop spending including the old guard Repubs! To blame everything on the tea party who are actually being RESPONISBLE CITIZENS is beyond SHAMEFUL!!

This is ridiculous. Talk about overheated rhetoric!

I don’t agree with the non-negotiable demands approach that some people who are self-designated “Tea Party” leaders are taking, simply because I think it’s a bad strategy and never works in any situation. But the loony left is trying to build up a situation where dissent is criminal.

Terrorism is a tough term, but, unfortunately, it describes tea party tactics precisely

Lefties just can't help themselves. Everything must be described in the most extreme terms. With the ten year anniversary of 9/11 coming up there are plenty of sick individuals, like the writer, who believe the way is clear to equate acts such as Pan Am 103 and 7/7 London with political disagreements completely legitimate and proper under our Constitution.

Let’s do away with the debt limit so it will all be better and Obama can sleep at night.

The crap is oozing out all over.

The mask is slipping form the DC Political media machine. The truth is slipping out. This is why Politico and the rest of the 0bot media are in hysteria today

The big DC political machine lie of this whole thing is the GOP needs a bill.

NO, the 0 Democrats need a bill. They are the party of spend. They are the ones who have to go to the voters in 2012 and defend their total mishandling of the economy for the last 4 years.

The GOP candidate in 2012 is going to be running against DC. The 2012 election will be a referendum on 0’s Presidency.

Time for people to quit buying the propaganda fed them by the DNC Media-Political machine, the 0 Dems, not the GOP, will be hurt the worst by a failure to strike a deal.

Here what you do GOP, you tell the Senate and 0 "CCB was the compromise, if you want a bill, there it is.".

The president would have to prioritize federal expenditures, choosing whether to send Social Security checks, pay federal employees ranging from FBI agents to food inspectors to troops in the field, make Medicare payments, provide for veterans, collect taxes and on and on.

Wow, what a b_tch. That would really be tough. Kind of like when I sit down with my paycheck every two weeks and figure out what I can pay.

Instead of terrorists , how about the oncologists of American politics? Although our treatment plan of surgery and chemotherapy will be painful, it is the only way to save the patient. Spontaneous remission of the debt disease will not happen. Unfortunately we are so late that the patient might not be saved and just beg for pain relief rather than treatment while waiting for death.
