A Republican aide e-mails me: The Speaker, Sen. Reid and Sen. McConnell all agreed on the general framework of a two-part plan. A short-term increase (with cuts greater than the increase), combined with a committee to find long-term savings before the rest of the increase would be considered. Sen. Reid took the bipartisan plan to the White House and the President said no.

i absolutely agree- the proof is in the pudding but the fact is the pendulum is beginning to swing in our direction both from the side of the cowards at the top of the GOP and the rats....maybe Boehner/Cantor are looking at the Nov elections and realize elections do have consequences...
If he truly has narcissistic personality disorder

10000000% sure he does. No question about it.
Obama, like all Democrats, is counting on the people no paying close attention.

You and I know that.
But are there enough people out there getting their propaganda/checks who know it?
This is completely intentional. He’ll stop the checks, rioting ensues. Then the race/ideological civil war begins.
“Obama isnt willing to settle for anything less than what *he* wants. He may make noises otherwise, but he wont actually compromise in any significant way.”
Because he WANTS default, thats why. Order a stoppage of checks to the elderly and disabled, and have a default to boot. Cause as much damage to the economy as possible. It would be a dream come true for him. Once the destruction is complete, he can skip the country and live in the lap of luxury in another country.
Debt talks rain on Obama 50th birthday parade
Mon Jul 25, 2011 10:25am EDT
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Rancorous negotiations with congressional Republicans over how best to deal with the U.S. budget deficit may keep President Barack Obama away from his own 50th birthday party in Chicago next month.
Obama has canceled a series of campaign fundraisers this month to stay in Washington for the tense negotiations that have angered the U.S. public, worried financial markets and raised fears of a first-ever U.S. debt default.
He also will not attend a birthday bash in Chicago on August 3 if there is not a deal, a campaign official said on Monday.
“The president will not attend the event in Chicago if negotiations are ongoing,” the official said.
Obama turns 50 on August 4, and the Democratic president has planned events in his hometown on August 3 to raise money for his 2012 re-election campaign, which the Chicago Sun-Times had reported were to include a birthday concert with celebrity performances and dinner with the president.
Tickets for the events ranged from $50 a person to $35,800 a couple.
Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have both canceled fundraisers this month that would have raised millions of dollars for their re-election war chest, the campaign official said.
Obama canceled a planned trip to California and Seattle, put off a fundraiser in New York and will not appear at two events in Washington that were set for Monday. Biden will substitute for Obama at one event; the other was canceled.
Biden was supposed to travel to Atlanta, Nashville and Dallas for fundraisers.
Obama’s last campaign fundraiser was on June 30 in Pennsylvania.

I agree.
I expected riots followed by social disintegration NEXT summer, not now.
But if Obama WANTED the country to come apart NOW, what would he be doing differently? He's playing it like the time is NOW.
...
SIDE NOTE: Obama will be in control of what does not get paid. He will be able to deliver maximum social chaos. He will also be able to weaken our defenses so severely that the Islamofascists have an open field. If he starts all this NOW, the consequences in the next 19 months will be horrible beyond our ability to imagine.
IDIOT ALERT....

Debt Ceiling: Should John Boehner And Eric Cantor Be Tried For Treason?
I am thoroughly disgusted with John Boehner, Eric Cantor, and the Republican leadership. I had assumed that even the “Tea Party fringe” element of the Republican base would not be enough to derail a debt ceiling deal from coming together over the weekend — aren’t Republicans the party of business and all that?
Apparently not.
I don’t know of a single American business owner or executive who thinks default — economic armageddon — should be on the table, and yet Republicans are acting as if Americans consider this a viable option.
Sadly, it’s already too late: although we still have time to get a deal before the August 2nd hard deadline, this is the equivalent of shoving a check under your landlord’s door at 11:59 p.m. You’ve lost his trust, even if you are technically not in default.
Enough disgusting dramatics to please your small Tea Party base — we are a nation of more than 300 million; the Tea Party is a handful of folks with racist signs, radical agenda, and the favor of a few influential bookers at Fox News.
This does not make them a majority by any stretch of the imagination.
I have been called out for criticizing the Tea Party: how can I question the motives of freedom-loving Americans who simply reject Keynesian economics in favor of the Austrian school? How can I marginalize them?
I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t want a few “nutters” deciding my nation’s fate. Sometimes I wonder if Tea Partiers actually want to see widespread economic destruction: a thoroughly disgraced dollar and lowering of America to “second-class” status would be a boon for their gold and silver portfolios — most Tea Partiers have listened to commentators like Glenn Beck and have turned their retirement portfolios into gluttonous gold bullion vaults.

Understand this. Someone with narcissistic personality disorder will destroy themselves and everyone else if they don't get their way. There are ways to manage someone like this, but if they break (which Obama appears to have) they will make it a crusade to bring it all down. Even if the GOP gave him everything he wanted, I am no sure Obama would agree now. He wants to punish the American people.
I have seen such people up close, and I don't think many here understand just what can happen.
You could be right, she is one big ole gal. I was looking at that photo of them leaving church last Sunday and ... sheesh, her arms hang almost to her knees. The tall kid has arms like that too. ALL of their arms are way longer than Obongo’s.
Incorrect. The State Run Media will make sure the GOP is to blame.
If Obama went on a presser, and stated "The GOP has NO hand in the default. It is my fault. I am the cause and the fault of the debt crisis.", the media would report: "Obama: "The GOP ... is.. the cause and the fault of the debt crisis."
More importantly, the ethics enforcers should be ruthless but fair in enforcing the rules.
Maybe they will learn such things at the tax payer funded golf outing they will enjoy in Orlando. The GEO (government ethics office) is hosting a conference at some fancy golf course in Orlando. How outrageous is that?
Pass it and let him say no on Aug 2nd.
