The Democratic-controlled Senate on Friday narrowly voted to block a Republican measure that would force Congress to pass a stringent balanced budget amendment and cap spending before increasing the debt ceiling.
The legislation, a conservative priority, never had a chance of passing, but the strictly partisan 51-46 vote to table the Cut, Cap and Balance bill highlighted the partisan divide in Washington over how to tackle spending and raise the nations $14.3 trillion debt limit.

Let the whole thing crash and let’s get this rollin’ to where we know it’s going ...
Are there any dems at all that could be persuaded to join republicans?
If the House has any guts, they’d send ‘Cut More, cap and balance’, and then the Senate may have wished they took the first deal.
If you think things are bad now, you ain't seen nothing. What will come if we don't raise the ceiling will be much worse. Think 1929.
WTF is up with McLame not voting?
I kinda wish TSHTF so we can just get a much needed purge started.
I am so sick and tired of all of this, its time to drop off the grid.
If they pass that there will be no shutdown because the Dems will cave. We can man the air traffic control with military. The rest of what the FAA does we can do without for a couple of days. The coast guard is military. They are covered by the suggested law. The rest can work without pay for a few days like they did in the last shutdown.
Sadly, after reading all this news report, I now starting to share in your position. Just do the first two, “cut and cap”, hold off the balance budget until after next year, when there is a massive turnover in the Senate and in the White House.
Think that just might ensure that he is defeated?
So you are saying that we should compromise, so Obama can’t threaten us with a depression?
We have the money to meet our obligations right now. It’s a boogeyman. How many debt auctions has the Fed bought their own treasury bonds?
Let’s just say that the House, Senate, and White House is NOW DONE for the summer. See you all in SEPTEMBER, this poster has had ENOUGH.
In addition, a Constitutional Amendment requires that 3/4 of the states (38) approve it. Only 13 Colonies or states can block it.
IMHO, there is no chance that even half the states would ratify, surely not the states that receive more in federal funding than they contribute in taxes.
“I would love to see Obama splaining to all the SS retirees why”
Bush’s fault. Republicans’ fault. He won’t even have to open his prissy little mouth. The demoncrap media whores will take care of the propaganda end of it.
Senator Casey,
Today you and your fellow Democrats voted against the ONLY pending legislation that will resolve the debt-limit crisis.
Republicans unanimously supported this economy-saving legislation.
You and your Democrats have done NOTHING to help our financial problems; all you do is bash Republican ideas without presenting your own. You haven't even done a budget in over two years.
Senator, you are a disgrace.
I will do everything in my power, contributing time, money and anything else to see you DEFEATED from the honorable position you hold with dishonor.
Don't bother sending me one of your form letters. We will see you defeated in a short time.
Even if it could be ratified, it takes years to get it done. We no longer have years to wait.
Didn’t CCB allow for a debt ceiling increase? Senate democrats are holding the Country hostage to your doomsday scenario...email your Senators and tell them to do their job.
I agree. The House adjourns and let the Dems eat their escrement sandwich.
Republicans fault. He wont even have to open his prissy little mouth. The demoncrap media whores will take care of the propaganda end of it.

Obama and the MSM can’t sell that if Republicans are on record passing a law that he has to pay SS, Medicare, the interest, and the military.
And it would pass because Democrats would have to vote for it or face some really cool ads about their vote against paying SS.
It throws Obama under the bus.
The House will stick with their bill as written and that’s the only deal the Democrats will get.
