I disagree with National Concealed Carry - would you want someone like Eric Holder having a list of all the gun owners in the country??? I would prefer National Reciprocity if we have to have anything. Personally, I believe that the 2nd Amendment is all the governmental permission I need to own/carry a firearm. My RIGHTS come from God and the amendments to our constitution only affirm them.

I agree with you...
I have a CCW in my state....but disagree with that as well.
the constitution says all we should need to have for concealed or open carry.
time to arrest criminals who commit crimes with guns and double or triple their time at sentence time for using their guns in commiting their crime...
...leave honest gun owners alone.

This is not a federal responsibility. While I’m all for concealed carry everywhere I’m uneasy with the feds making law either for or against. It doesn’t sit well with 2A.

As an Illinoisan, I’d love to have concealed carry here, but I am very uncomfortable with setting the precedent that the federal government has the power to regulate this. Once the Dems get the House again, we’ll see a bill banning carry nationwide.

I love this guy sometimes. South Dakota is a HUGE gun rights state.
I am for either a National CCW or National Reciprocity. I travel a lot and it gets annoying only being able to carry in certain states or having to plan my trip according to reciprocity.
As long as we have the government background check to buy guns, they already have a list of us.

I share you concern that this could backfire on gun owners. Maybe us Illinoisians should get our act together and get rid of the RATS running our government rather than have to depend on the feds.

I don't want "national jurisdiction" over my right to armed self-defense, I want NO jurisdiction.
Thune's idea leaves us wide open to the Small Arms Treaty.

Concealed Carry Nationally ? Why not just pass a national law that any non felon convict can conceal carry anywhere in the USA or its territories, if they have a state right to do so, as a matter of second amendment rights. That would work.
I do not think the feds need to occupy this permitting process field.

The federal government does not have the power to “allow” people to carry concealed arms. That is a God-given natural right that nobody in government may take away without due process of law.
This is a law we do not and should not need. It’s probably also a stealth registry disguised as a national standard. Never trust the government.

Agreed.
I can’t get excited about well intended law makers requiring a license to exercise a Constitutionally ennumerated right.

He ought to press for amending the 1968 Firearms Act so that ANY CCW in one state could get a firearm (long and short) delivered to his house. A first “peel the artichoke”* move would allow a handgun to be shipped to any state’s FFL.
*Old East German quote on how the Reds operated back then - peel one leaf at a time from the artichoke until nothing remains.

Sounds like a fair idea, though Vermont-style carry is the ideal. Now he needs to introduce a bill that would repeal the 1934, 1968, and 1986 Victim Disarmament acts in their entirety. Make the alleged "pro-gun" congresscritters really stand up for the 2nd amendment.

The Bill of Rights prohibition is fine and does not need a federal law to augment it. State by State we have got this worked down to a managable level (Illinois the exception) but if the Feds get in it, it will be corrupted later.

You're already on a list if you've went through a background check to obtain a state CCL. With the way databases work and how much the government has been working to access and integrate them since 9/11, I can think of quite a few things they already know about you or anybody else.
