A Nevada man has filed a lawsuit against the states Department of Motor Vehicles alleging his rights were violated when he says the state denied his requests for personalized license plates with conservative political themes. James Linlor, a Douglas County resident, filed the complaint July 15 in U.S. District Court in Nevada. A state official said the plate eventually was issued late last year. The complaint alleges Linlor requested a personalized license plate of GOPALIN in 2009 and 2010

I completely concur with his complaint.
Unionized state workers in Nevada? What could go wrong out in Dingy Harry Land?
I thought he wanted “GOPAILIN.
She hasn’t even announced! How could it be political? What if he meant go Palin as in, away?
Maybe he mas talking about Michael Palin the Monty Python comedian.
Were there any Obama issued plates they I am sure did not call obscene?
Naw...more fun to start something.
I don’t see how they can even deny “political” plates. One of my coworkers has had “GOP MAN” as a vanity plate for years,
Well of course.
We deserve them. Pay through the nose and get treated like sewage by the BMV. That should give us some latitude to complain.
I’m guessing that their argument will focus upon the “political affiliation” clause.
He’d better set up 24/7 surveillance cameras. The Goons at the DMV know where he lives.
You may be right about the BMV or DMV but I am still trying to find where in the Bill of Rights are our guaranteed license plates. Since driving is a privilege and not a right I don’t think he has a case. If we were guaranteed that right I wonder what would happen if everyone wanted the same plate? I guess they would have to give it to them if it’s their right to have it. As far as latitude to complain, you certainly have the right to complain. That’s freedom of speech.
If you pay for a speciality plate and the letters and or numbers are open (not already being used) we have a rights to pay for them. There is a TX plate that says wtf44.
Oh I see now. If no one has that license plate then a person has the right to it. If someone else has that plate than you lose your right to it. That makes a lot a sense.
As I said that is a scam thought up by politicians in order to subjugate and fine the sh** out of us.
As for the license plates, it is your money and if you want to have obscene or political plates that is a persons right, because license plates are property.
Just did a search of available tags and GOOBAMA is available. https://dmvapp.nv.gov/dmv/vr/plateav/plateav_input.aspx
License plates are property of the state that issues them. The state sets the guidelines for operating motor vehicles. If you violate those guidelines the state can revoke them. Anyone who doesn’t believe this is stupid.
