Why Hasn’t The Earth Warmed In Nearly 15 Years?
Forbes ^ | Jul. 15 2011 | Patrick J. Michaels

There is no statistically significant warming trend since November of 1996 in monthly surface temperature records compiled at the University of East Anglia. Do we now understand why there’s been no change in fourteen and a half years?

If you read the news stories surrounding a recent paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences by Boston University’s Robert Kaufmann and three colleagues, you’d say yes, indeed. It’s China’s fault. By dramatically increasing their combustion of coal, they have increased the concentration of fine particles in the atmosphere called sulphate aerosols, which reflect away solar radiation, countering the warming that should be occurring from increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide.

Further, if this is true, then (as is usual in climate-world), “it’s worse than we thought.” After all, China will eventually reduce their sulfate emissions as their population becomes affluent enough to demand something better than miasmic air. Indeed, they are already beginning to clean things up, and when they finally do, all the cooling particles will be gone and the earth will warm substantially.

Reality may be a bit simpler, or much more complicated. But the reason this is all so important is that if there is no good explanation for the lack of warming, then an increasingly viable alternative is that we have overestimated the gross sensitivity of temperature to carbon dioxide in our computer models.

One problem is that we really don’t know how much cooling is exerted by sulfates, or whether they are just a convenient explanation for the failure of the forecasts of dramatic warming. The United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which grants itself climate authority, states that our “Level of Scientific Understanding” of the effects range between “low” and “very low,” with a possible cooling between zero (none) and a whopping 3.5...

The warmest say that anything is possible The warmest what?

Quite correct. It should have been "The warmists".

Way back with the first IPCC predictions in the 1990's, the results already were discrediting their prophecies. So they dragged out this sulphate aerosol excuse, twenty years ago, to account for their failure. It didn't pan out empirically, so it disappeared from the discussion, until now. It is like the boogeyman they drag out of the closet to scare the kiddies when reality won't cooperate.

To rephrase: why is it that something that doesn’t exist can’t be
measured?

Whereas, in my area of CA, we are 20 degrees below normal today, and have been running at least 10 degrees cooler than normal for most of the spring and summer.

Clearly Mother Earth is still sick, it has a fever - that’s what the Algore and AGW Priests have told us (may IPCC be praised). But right now it’s just having the chills..

Wait until this phase passes and Mother Earth moves to the vomiting stage!

Conclusion: Global warming is man made - our Clean Air Act mandated removing particulates from emissions.

The temperature has made it past 75* twice so far this “summer”. It’s currently 67* and overcast outside, and it rained off and on all day yesterday.

BRRR!

Where I live it’s 61 degrees , June was very wet and freezing , wish they would include Canada in their global warming numbers. I think most of these global warming nuts live in a box.

Well, the dummies, this isn't the first minimum that has lasted so long, There are several recorded at over 14 years, so nothing to get excited about.

And no, the cause isn't something we're doing on earth... idiots. Despite there wish to do so, ignorant 'scientists' can't control the worlds weather - or even explain it beyond the obvious.

As sure as a rooster raises the sun, environmentalists call to action has thwarted any further increase in temperature.

“Why hasn’t the Earth Warmed In 15 Years?”

Because of global warming of course!

Rupert Murdoch paid the weather gods to hide the 'real' temperature.

It's nice how the Chinese were able to produce just enough particulates in the atmosphere to offset the warming effect of the release of carbon dioxide, That much and no more.

Nice balancing act.

Um, what’s the simplest answer to this question?

That the average global temperature , like the output of the Sun, is pretty much a constant.

The changes in our 'weather' or 'climate' are due to weather patterns (climate) moving to somewhere else. The 'weather' is not anchored to the ground.

The Desert in Egypt was not always a desert. Underwater Volcanoes affect ocean currents and temperatures. On land volcanoes affect local temperatures. The Jet stream movement causes shifts in weather patterns. The most whimsiest of things, clouds, are the most powerful factor in local temperature change.

The one thing that doesn't change the weather is CO2.

Right. “Why Hasn’t The Earth Warmed In Nearly 15 Years?”
Two words: Global Stagnation. In the 1970’s, too much carbon dioxide was reflecting sunlight into outer space, threatening another ice age. This turned around in the eighties when the carbon went into a greenhouse gas cycle and trapped heat in the atmosphere. Now the temperature is back to where it was 15 years ago. Carbon Dioxide has given us nothing but millenia of global stagnation.

The problem is our oppressive carbon cycle that thus far has dominated all life on earth. Real change would mean would mean bringing an end to carbonaceous organic matter. This may cause some discomfort at first. And to others, putting all living things into gas chambers, or adding sterilizing chemicals to water supplies, would seem to be only half measures. But this could be followed up by moving, and moving and fast, into to silicon based life forms.

How about throwing a trillion or two at General electric, then having the President institute a a “Silicon Cycle” committee chaired by Al Gore? Barak Obama himself could take on the task of training 10,000 silicon life form engineers.
