Heavens to Betsy! You’re not implying that Democrats would use the budget deficit as a political football, are you? What a nasty think to think. Shame.

And every single Republican voted to raise the limit.
Why was it right then and wrong now? It wasn't but don't believe this won't be thrown in the Republicans face if it is brought out.
Both established parties represent the lobbyist that put them in office.
I believe we need a new system if it is ever going to change.

Does this also mean the every single republican voted for a debt increase? No. Close to every single republic voted for the increase - three did not.
Burns, Coburn, Ensign voted NO to the increase.

[Five years ago:] Why was it right then and wrong now? It wasn't but don't believe this won't be thrown in the Republicans face if it is brought out.
As I recall, the agreement was that the debt ceiling would be raised, and in addition there would be spending cuts to eliminate the need for raising the ceiling again. The debt ceiling was raised, but the implementation of cuts was conveniently forgotten. In short, the short-term stop-gap was implemented and the Congress didn't follow through with the other half of the plan.
I believe that the Democrats need, TODAY, to propose significant real cuts in spending, push them through the House and Senate, and have the President sign the bill. THAT will show all of us that the Democrats are being adult about the problem. So far we have had just words, actions speak louder than. How about some action, NOW?
They have three business days, according to Obama's deadline. So, suck it up, Congresscritters.

With the likes of Snowe, Brown, Collins, Graham, etc., do not expect to get all Repubs to vote “No” on this debt ceiling raise.

Hmmmm. Didn’t the Dems take over the House and the Senate in 2006? Perhaps this is one reason the cuts were never implemented.

And in just three years, Obama has doubled the amount of debt that Pres. Bush piled up fighting two wars. Now they want to paint Republicans as unpatriotic for refusing to raise the debt ceiling so they can buy more votes with handouts to their special interest groups in next year’s elections.
To: george76
But that was one president ago.
Things have changed (ie - Odumbo needs to get re-elected.....)
