A small town in Arizona is suddenly a YouTube sensation after a town-hall meeting devolved into a physical clash as a woman was forcibly removed from speaking during the public portion of the event.
Jennifer "Jade" Jones, 45, of Quartzsite, Ariz., was taken into custody by local police at the behest of Quartzsite councilmembers, over the objections of the mayor, who pleaded with officers not to remove the woman.

> Whats next?
How about a tranquilizer gun or a rubber round to the trunk?
He wasn’t lunging at anyone.
He had no hostages.
He just wanted to be left alone.
That was then. This is now. While that was true in the past, now we have became too civilized for that. We are now being conditioned that we need “professionals” to make our decisions for us.The individual is no longer competent to hake their day-to day life decisions. We need “professional” juries, “Professional” police, “professional” rulers, to wit: politicians, “professional” firemen. The list goes on, even down to “professional rat killers.
OK, that explains it. But the mayor must have allowed the video to be shown.
I did notice the council chamber was pretty fancy for a town of under 4,000 population and the council was removed from the audience by a barrier. Wonder if it doubles as a courtroom? That is what it looked like.
Council Meetings are “public” meetings and most states have “open meeting” requirements to reduce the smoke filled backroom nonsense.
Yes, you are correct. But does the public have access to the video's of the Council meeting. Are they part of the "open meeting' requirements?
Only for lack of opportunity.
Hmmm! Is that why small cities have SWAT teams and the U.S. Department of Education has their own SWAT team?
How do we know this pscychotic/alcoholic/off-his-meds guy didn’t lunge at the cops? All we have here is one post from a sympathetic FReeper. In situations like this, I give the cops the benefit of the doubt. Some people give crazy alcoholics the benefit of the doubt. So be it.
The thing around here is that you have certain freepers who post daily articles about alleged bad cops. So people think it's an epidemic. But you never read articles about the millions of positive daily interactions between cops and the public.
Like I said, medical negligence KILLS people on a daily basis, but we accept that because we are sure that docs are trying to do the right thing. We just don't give the same lee-way to police officers.
Agree that council acted stupidly. Their egos were under attack, but that’s part of public service. Problem could have been resilved by recognizing all speakers for two minutes, then extending time as needed if the body so decides.
As far as sustaining a charge of kidnapping, that would not fly. False arrest possible, but generally, kidnapping occurs when a person, without lawful authority, physically asports (i.e., moves) another person without that other person’s consent, with the intent to use the abduction in connection with some other nefarious objective. Under the Model Penal Code (a set of exemplary criminal rules fashioned by the American Law Institute), kidnapping occurs when any person is unlawfully and non-consensually asported and held for certain purposes. These purposes include gaining a ransom or reward; facilitating the commission of a felony or a flight after the commission of a felony; terrorizing or inflicting bodily injury on the victim or a third person; and interfering with a governmental or political function.
Could not kidnapping because she was not being held for a
nefarious objective. False arrest as a civil matter is a possibility.
Hmmmm. That could be made to apply to a school bus.
No, you seldom read articles about the wonderful things all kinds of people do every day. How many “Aw sh*ts” does in take to ruin 100 “Attaboys”? Only one the last time I checked.
That form of city government tends away from citizen responsive government. You have a bureaucrat running things. Elected officials become impotent. Like this mayor.
EXCELLENT POINT!!!
We have a county cop roll through town about once a week but that’s all he does is passes through.
False arrest and Deprivation of civil Rights under color of law. Especially since the Mayor was sitting right there telling them to leave her alone.
Are you one of those “shoot to kill” people rather than “shoot to disable” people?
There are hundreds of thousands LEO's in the USA. Of course you're going to get some a-holes.
“So, a bipolar man with a knife is not dangerous? How would you have handled it. Taser didnt work. Whats next?”
Shoot him in the leg and watch him drop that knife. Just keep your distance.
