Why are you trying to cut out debate on the Trademark? What are you afraid of?

It is more than a bit amusing that you take the time to accuse me of denigrating freepers without saying how but, afaik, you are silent on all the truly vile name calling that comes from the palinistas toward anyone who does not toe their line (these have included cute little morsels like...accusations of homosexuality and comments like, "I hope you die in a house fire.").

As far as my using Trademark as a nick-name for Palin(™), why do you suppose that is? What could have possibly given me the idea?

And where is your post objecting to the various Bachmann or Perry or, in the past, Daniels nicknames and insults?

If you want a forum that is nothing but a Palin(™) love-fest, there are plenty of those. If I'm wrong, please correct me, but it is my understanding that FR is a place for discussion, not worship. And, imo, Palin's(™) unprecedented trademark registration of her name shows a greater interest on her part in the marketplace than in the POTUS-race. Therefore it is perfectly natural for me, or anyone, to point this out on a thread about her little dance of the seven veils.

Because she has secured her right to exclusive use of “Palin” for the political communication services she has been providing.

It’s legally very smart. An it can be used to take control of internet domains registered by hostiles or opportunists.

Gosh, I was looking for a real answer not more snark.

1. I’m not trying to cut debate on her trademarking her name. It’s not that big of a deal to me one way or the other but why not start a thread about that? It’s one thing to want a debate and another to say “the trademark isn’t running”. Why not just say, “I don’t think she’s running and here’s why...”.

2. I don’t call anyone names so I don’t pay a lot of attention to those and in general (whether a thread is about Palin or something else) I tend to gloss over the nasty posts. As far as Perry & Bachmann are concerned, I don’t know a whole lot about Perry & I’m not interested in him so I don’t frequent his threads. Same with Bachmann. I’ve said my piece on her hiring of Rollins and don’t read through her threads. I’m sorry you’ve been called names but I wasn’t looking for a “well he did it first” answer. If you tone it down maybe others will too. Or else they’ll look like asses.

3. I’m sure you used “the trademark” because she trademarked her name. Since I don’t think it’s a big deal (people, you and I included) do things that some people won’t understand, will think are stupid, etc., I figure I don’t need to constantly mention them.

4. As I said before, I don’t spend time on Bachmann or Perry threads (though I do know he and Palin are good friends) so I’m not sure what names they’re called. I do know I’ve seen Texans on a couple different message boards say he’s a RINO but since he hasn’t declared, or even hinted as clearly as Palin has IMO I just don’t read his threads. Now I DO respond people on Palin threads but I don’t think I’ve ever called anyone a name and have tried to make reasoned arguments. If I have said something to you that’s an insult, I’m sorry. I don’t have a problem making fun of the idiots at DU but I try not to treat fellow freepers than way.

5. Of course I want FR to be a place of debate and there’s not one thing wrong with you wanting to debate whether or not she’ll run. But as I used to tell my sons, “sometimes it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.” Heck, it would have sounded different if you would’ve said, “I don’t think she’s running because by trademarking her name she indicated X,Y,Z...”

As I tried to indicate in my original post, I truly wasn’t trying to be facetious. For myself I usually avoid threads that I know are going to cause a visceral reaction in me. I actually love to debate ideas. IMO, that would mean a discussion of WHY someone would trademark their name rather than using that fact in a way you know is going to make people hostile.
