Troopers: Colo. State Senator Lied About Deadly Crash
7NEWS ^ | July 1, 2011 | Deb Stanley

Amarillo, Texas --State police investigators recommended that a Colorado senator be charged with criminally negligent homicide, tampering with physical evidence and injury to a child in a crash that killed a pregnant Amarillo woman..

A grand jury declined to charge Sen. Suzanne Williams. Troopers then cited Williams on suspicion of having an unsecured passenger under 17, having a child under 8 unsecured by a safety seat system and driving on the wrong side of the highway.

...

Williams' son, Todd Williams, and his 3-year-old son were ejected from the vehicle. They were seriously injured.

"While on scene Suzanne (Williams) told me that no one had been ejected from her vehicle and that everyone was extracted from the vehicle by rescue," a state trooper said in an offense report obtained by the newspaper. "Suzanne failed to inform me of the truth of the events that had taken place before anyone arrived on scene."

Investigators determined that Williams picked up her 3-year-old grandson from the highway and placed him in a child safety seat inside her car before emergency help arrived.

...

The case garnered national attention in part because Williams is a staunch advocate of child-restraint laws in Colorado, but DPS investigators said none of Williams' passengers were buckled up.

After receiving the DPS findings [ a charge of criminally negligent homicide, a felony ] , 69th District Attorney David Green opted to have the grand jury determine whether to issue an indictment.

Prosecutors have two other options - either file charges or reject the case.

There is no punishment worse than having to live with what happened.

You're wrong.

You do know this is a Liberal you're talking about?

Same rules don't apply, in a lot of ways. Having a conscience is but one of those rules.

Just look at her actions and words following the accident.

If this was the neighbor that went to an average job or was not in the money and connected political set, he or she would be sitting in jail right now.

Kids not properly restrained..why? veers into traffic.. picks up the ejected child and puts them back in the seat and could have killed them..lies to the cops.. kills a mother/wife..

If that was one of us,,,

She's a DEMOCRAT, a fake, and a liar. False witness.

She would happily frame the other guy if she could get away with it, and those that assist in hiding the truth by improperly shaming others are the problem.

If my shorthand criticism of this journalist in particular and its implication of most journalist in general offended you, I’m sorry. I’ve been here awhile and find that most comments are effective with fewer words and add humor if possible. However, here goes:

Our news is always filtered through bias that is so thick, I doubt that we get the all the facts about any event.

For example, if the writer of the article thought it was important information to notify us what her official office was which is tangentially related to the tragedy (would we be told up front if she was a dentist?). If having established that her office was one of the most important facts for the reader to know, then why not identify which party? Whenever a public official is mention, its normal to specify which party.

If what appears to be information that is relevant to the facts the writer establishes as important, then what else is missing? Personally, I can tolerate the bias if the writer at least provides the basic facts.

Have to admit, crossed my mind when no party affiliation surfaced in the article.

What a sick comment - is that really the first thing you thought of when you read the story?

The accident happened last December and any number of news stories covering the accident have been posted to FR over the past six months. I hardly think that you were reading first thoughts.

Here’s the simple unvarnished truth.

She cared more about her public image than the well being of her grandchild. Her first actions were to protect her image and not her family.

By moving the child that had already been thrown from the car in a violent wreck into a child seat and then strapping it in she risked serious further harm to the child all so she could present a better public image of herself.

That is sick.

Just feel I have to say something here.

Driving distracted by whatever is a very dangerous thing. Even on a flat, smooth and straight road one can drift from a heavy arm or even a little wind push.

But having driven this particular road many many times in the past twenty or so years and scrutinizing this curve even more since this accident I will say there is a small bump in the northbound lane that will cause a vehicle to cross the center line if the driver is not paying attention. I have "let it drift" to see more than once to check this since I noticed it. (I am a professional driver so safety was a priority while doing this on daylight runs)

I do not feel this is an excuse or a reason for a counter suit. Just pointing out how quickly and devastating a momentary distraction can be.

Please you all Pay Attention or get the heck off the roads.

I didn’t type it; but it is certainly the first thing I thought of.
It if had been a republican, it would have said so in the first line of the story.
Now go pull your underwear out of your butt crack.
