LAREDO, July 2 - U.S. residents are being advised not to visit Nuevo Laredo this Fourth of July Weekend.
The advisory comes from the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.
Both agencies say they have received credible intelligence from multiple sources indicating that the Zetas Cartel is planning to target U.S. citizens who travel to Nuevo Laredo this weekend.
“According to the information we have received, the Zetas are planning a possible surge in criminal activity, such as robberies, extortions, car-jackings and vehicle theft, specifically against U.S. citizens,” said DPS Director Steven C. McCraw. “We urge U.S. citizens to avoid travel to Nuevo Laredo this weekend if it can be avoided.”
In a news release, DPS says there is no indication that these cartel-related criminal activities will occur in Texas. But, the release states, DPS and Webb County Sheriff’s Office “cannot discount the information received that supports possible crimes against U.S. citizens in Nuevo Laredo and perhaps the surrounding Mexican suburbs.
DPS and local authorities are fully prepared to respond to any criminal activity that occurs within Texas, the news release states.
A Mexican cop stopped me on the other side and asked me what I was looking for, and he had a real worried look on his face.
Thinking back on it, he was worried about me.
I so lucked out.

I am currently reading a book Burried Secrets by Edward Humes published in1991. It is subtitled A True Story of Serial Murder, Black Magic, and Drug-Running on the U.S. Border. I am currently working on a novel on a pair of Serial/Spree killers in 1799. [If you feel like communicating on the subject of novel writing on dark doings, you can private message me.] This documented story deals with a Cuban/American priest of the black arts, specifically Palo Mayombe, and the mostly white magic of Santeria.
Apparently, magic was becoming ever more popular among drug dealers at that time, and from the bloody doings that have recently surfaced of mass murders, I would not be surprised if it has become much more widespread. The action moves back and forth from Matamoros/Brownsville and Mexico City. I would not be surprised if Nuevo Laredo/Laredo has similar issues. The case was broken when a spring break celebrating college student was kidnapped, tortured and murdered in a Palo ritual. Perhaps you were VERY lucky.
I avoid Neuevo Laredo and all of Mexico on all days!
I also avoid any part of Mexico the other 364 days a year too.

I was statiooned at Fort Sam Houston to go through Medic school, and went down for a look around. Brothels and Mexican goods for sale. The beer was cheap and the women were too. They actually made us pretty welcome, they recognised young horny guys with money to spend. Biggest problem was shaking off the shoe shine kids.
Within five years we will have to invade and occupy a zone three to five miles deep into Mexico to establish a security
buffer.
Mexico will become our Gaza Strip on a MUCH larger scale and Nuevo Grenado will be the the center of this sh!t storm.
Response: The Zetas are short changing themselves. They should cross to the United States side of the border, kill, rape and plunder, then return to Mexico. Neither the American government nor the sick citizens of the United States would resist or seek retribution. Foolish, Foolish Zetas.
My comment was going to be very similar to yours...folks who travel to Mexico must have some sort of death wish.
The last time I went into Mexico was probably around 1975 and even back then I remember being very uneasy.
I was in Nuevo Laredo in 2005. Very scary. But I only went to the nearest pharmacy. I wouldn’t cross that border today at any crossing.

Wonder why none of “our employees” (Congress) vacation in Mexico. Guess it’s not as appealing as other foreign countries!!!
I gave up visiting Third World Crapholes in Aug of '92 when I retired from the US Army, but thanks for the info, anyway.
