Following bankruptcy filings by Sbarro, Perkins and Marie Callenders this year, new data suggests that other popular restaurant chains are in danger of following suit.
TheStreet.com recently looked at restaurants based on their Altman Z-Score. The website says the score is based on several aspects of a company's financial health -- including working capital, total assets, total liabilities, market capitalization, sales, retained earnings and earnings before interest & taxes (EBIT) -- to forecast the probability of it going bankrupt within two years.
Since it began the scoring system in 1968, TheStreet says the formula has been 72 percent accurate in predicting corporate bankruptcies two years prior to the filing.
The list of restaurant in order of most at risk to file for bankruptcy (limited to those with a market capitalization of $100 million):
1. Dennys 2. Wendys/Arbys 3. Mortons Restaurant Group 4. DineEquity (IHOP, Applebees) 5. Dominos Pizza 6. Bravo Brio Restaurant Group 7. McCormick & Schmicks 8. Ruths Hospitality Group (Ruths Chris Steak House, Mitchells Fish Market) 9. OCharleys 10. Einstein Noah Restaurant Group
It’s interesting that since the end of 2008, I’ve never seen the phrase “McJobs” used in the MSM.
“Im glad Golden Corral isnt on the list!.......”
Every other Sunday for big family breakfast!
I noticed two KFC were closed in my area.. I thought they were doin good.. usually seemed busy when I went there..
I just remember Domino’s Pizza as having pizza flavoured cardboard crusts.
Probably time for people who love the country to step in and get this nightmare Obama out of the WH. He will ruin the wholee place before 2012.
Enough is enough.
Cheap Pizza sells. Little Cezars was tough to beat. But Domino’s crust is just plain nasty!
Longhorn apparently is safe according to this list and I am the guy who gets the burgers at steak places. I never cared for steak all that much.
The Harbor Inn Seafood chain is another favorite of mine. It is my typical Friday reward to myself for surviving another week. I love my fried filet of flounder, fries, coleslaw, hushpuppies, and extra tartar sauce to go. Right now it comes to a little over $9.00.
Hmmm...Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in danger of going under. We went there for our daughters 21st birthday, there were six of us and cost hubby $638! Waaay too expensive! He went white as he paid the bill! :)
(At least that's how it is with me and Wendy's.)
My wife works at Red Lobster and they are as busy as ever. I guess it depends on location and how the economy in that area is doing.
Ugg...Don’t remind me! Domino’s is disgusting that’s for sure!
I actually Domino’s since they’ve redone everything. Their thin and crispy pizza is my fav!
Love Longhorns!! Thank God they are ok!
The recovery of Dickhead, nobody is allowed to report, courtesy of this unelected dickhead.
Well, it’s not fine dining, but I like their deli-style sandwiches like turkey and Swiss and the BLT. The French dip, and just to top off the ole cholesterol meter, the Beef and Cheddar with Arby’s sauce.
*like*
That's because Sean Hannity advertised for them on his pathetic radio show. And their steaks are below average in quality and taste. (And most people I know, will never go back because they were ripped off so badly on the price and quality.)
I did the same thing in 1997 for Christmas...........we have not been back.
I'll just grill.
Not only did the Hooters on Beechmont close, they razed the sucker too!
