The only thing that should be happening is that the House passes a budget that respects the American taxpayer and says ‘enough is enough’ to the systematic pillaging of the national treasury by not just the Democrats, but also the Republicans. End all benefits for each and every elected or appointed official. Roll back congressional budgets to FY2000 spending. End the Department of Education and other entirely useless expenditures of the taxpayer's credit.

And slash and burn through federal salaries, putting in a statutory limit that no federal employee can earn more than a member of the armed forces with similar responsibilities. Slash and burn through benefits for federal employees, limiting them to just a week of vacation to go along with their 12 paid holidays, end roll overs of sick leave, end payouts of accrued sick leave or unused vacation time, and end the buyouts of federal employees which is turning several into lottery winners at the public’s dime.

Yes, I know I'm talking less than a penny out of the federal dollar, that the biggest thing is the so called ‘entitlements’ - but who's going to take them seriously while they're being driven by taxpayer paid drivers in taxpayer paid cars, on taxpayer paid vacations, knowing that if they give the people the shaft and they finally get thrown out of office, that each and every one of us is going to keep on paying them for the rest of their lives.

Let's lead the way, put forward a budget that actually reigns in the ‘it's not my money’ mentality that infests Washington, end the high life party atmosphere, and feast upon the multitude of ‘hard luck congressman’ stories that are sure to come pouring out about how they just can't afford two half million dollar homes and private school for their kiddies as well as some extra scratch to keep the mistress quiet.

I can guarantee you that most of the cuts come from Defense in this deal.

The White House has proposed raising about $600 billion in new tax revenue, including ending subsidies to oil and gas companies, an idea that failed in the Senate.

If it failed before why are you stubbornly trying again?

"Big Oil" gets by with margins just over 6% (average '06-'10). So-called "windfall profits" come from spikes in oil prices, something this president has some control over through control of drilling permits, EPA regulations, drilling moratoriums and more.

During that period for Apple? 22% margins. Coke? 33% margins.

In defense of Big Oil: The truth about those huge, hated earnings numbers

If this was so obvious a move and so important to the economy recovering, why didn't Obama do it when he had a filibuster proof supermajority in the Senate and control of the House as well?

But he said the only way to achieve that objective would be to include tax increases or the elimination of tax breaks for big companies and wealthy individuals.

While both are in the 35% bracket, Obama paid just 26% and Biden only 23%. By their own logic, they themselves aren't paying their "fair share" of what they owe.

If this tax scheme was such an important element of "getting the economy moving again," one of such "fundamental fairness," why didn't they take these steps with their Democratic House majority and filibuster-proof Senate majority in the first two years of the Obama regime?

If the GOP caves on this vote, y'all had better be in possession of some Gold...We are past the point of no return. ANY possible solution will cause massive social upheaval. The only way out now is to trigger a massive bout of inflation. Those without tangible property or foreign holdings will be the new poor. Just think of adding tens of millions of formerly middle class Americans to the poverty rolls! Not good. Not good at all...

Demand a Balanced Budget. Cut Spending AND Raise Taxes.....Raise taxes to the Clinton levels, brings in 360 billion more. Across the board cuts of 20 percent saves 740 billion....thats 1.1 trillion and balances the budget IN ONE YEAR.

Obama's "solution" to the debt problem is quite simple, really, although it does involve bending over a bit:

Debt relief, Obama style

Why aren't the Republicans screaming at the top of their lungs:

$600,000,000,000!!! That is $2,000 for each LEGAL man, woman, and child in this country.

Can you afford another $4,000 in taxes for you and your wife?

Are the Dems smoking crack? No new taxes. That is the starting point. Cutting spending needs to go with tax cuts. Simple, easy to understand and hard for Dems to fight against.

"including ending subsidies to oil and gas companies"

How about ending subsidies for "green energy" exploration so that GE actually pays some taxes this year.

Section 8 housing vouchers are funded at $18.4 billion per year. It is nothing but a give away to Democrat constituents, and does nothing for the economy. The Federal Government needs to get rid of Section 8 and its welfare ilk before it comes to the productive sector to ask for more.

Ahhh raising taxes while the economy is teetering on the brink of recession. Brilliant!

I also love how they don’t like calling them tax increases anymore, just “changes in revenue” or somesuch orwellian nonesense.

“The White House has proposed raising about $600 billion in new tax revenue, including ending subsidies to oil and gas companies, an idea that failed in the Senate.”

These people do not understand “NO” new taxation, “NO” more borrowing, “NO” more freeloading, or even “NO” spending more than revenue or simply “REDUCING” spending. They need to be reminded of torches and pitchforks, tar and feathers, and rides on a rail out of town.

The Republicans must not agree to any tax increases. The tax increases proposed by the White House are just a ploy to try to get some congressional Republicans to vote for tax hikes so they can pick off some Republicans in the 2012 election. It's a political trick and we must not fall for it.

Everybody in Washington know that the long-term deficit problem is so huge that it can only be solved in one of two ways: either we make major cutbacks in entitlement spending, or we raise taxes substantially so that everybody with an income above $50K pays at least 40% of their incomes to the federal government through a variety of taxes, to pay for the current spending plans for Social Security, Medicare, Obamacare, Medicaid, etc. Huge tax increases are not possible politically because the majority of voters won't accept them, so everybody in Washington (except maybe Pelosi) knows that eventually entitlement spending has to be cut back substantially through higher age requirements, means testing, and other methods. The only question is when will those cuts in entitlement spending finally be made, and will it take another economic crisis and a collapse of the treasury bond market to build the political will to make those spending cuts.

The White House, run by the Obamas, Jarrett, Geithner, and other dim-witted socialists, just wants to continue piling up more debt and delay the inevitable entitlement spending cuts until after the 2012 election. The tax increases they propose on business are not nearly large enough to even begin to solve the deficit problem and are simply a trick to try to fool some Republicans into voting for tax increases, so they can pick off a few fools in the 2012 election. So don't fall for it. It would be far better to vote for a 1-year extension of the debt ceiling and just say this is the best we can do while communists run the White House and senate, and we're going to have to take control of the White House and Senate next year to really solve the debt problem without huge tax increases.

Why doesn’t the Republican Leadership demand another massive cost saving move? Why dont they demand a Government wide EFFICENCY EFFORT!!!! Evaluate each Government Employee’s posiition and work production and eliminate every Government Employee that isn’t worth their salt!!
Could start with the Elimination of the entire Department of Energy! heck, that department didn’t exist until that worthplie of crap, Jimmy Carter, created it. My bet is that each Department could be cut by at least 50% with a resultant increase in the quality of life of every single American Citizen!

ending subsidies to oil and gas companies = not allowing them to write down capital investment depreciation which any other business writes down

That'll help push our gas prices closer to what they are in Europe as ObaMao demands.

That’s 400 to 600 billion more reasons this economy wouldn’t take off under the new plan.

Obama is a child out of his element.

They have a budget they can either accept the Ryan plan or find away to run the goverment on what it actually gets in taxes.

It is not acceptable to ask the American people to cut their budgets more just to make up for the inability of the Federal Government to cut it’s budget.

Anyone who wants to pay more taxes should write a check for however much more they want to the IRS. They have NO right to demand the rest of us pay one penny more!
