President Obama Apologizes to Family of Fallen Soldier (SFC Jared Monti, Medal of Honor)

Sgt. 1st Class Jared Monti was actually killed in Afghanistan on June 21, 2006. In September 2009, President Obama awarded him the Medal of Honor posthumously.

On his Facebook page this evening, Monti's father, Paul, posted: "FYI- President Barack Obama telephoned me personally this afternoon to apologize for his error in his speech to the 10th mountain division re: Jared's medal ceremony. Apology accepted."

You are exactly right. He didn't say those words, his teleprompter told him to say them.

This morning a talk show host wondered. “How could Obama forget that the first medal of honor he awarded to someone was to a fallen hero ? You would think he would remember it ?” No more than he could remember what he had for breakfast that day. He didn't care about the man, he was simply going through the motions. They told him he had to show up and look very sombre, give the medal of honor to his survivors and then hurry off to the golf course or a fund raiser.. You can't blame him for forgetting his first medal of honor presentation.. he didn't give a sh*t !

Actually, assuming the report is true (a big assumption), I like that it was private. Reminds me of something G.W. Bush might have done.

And there the comparison ends. I’m sure Obama had a political motive, while Bush would have been motivated by something higher. Or so I see it.

Obama is nothing but a phony. He feigns concern and sympathy, but he never loses a wink of sleep worrying about anything or anybody but himself.

Given what the family is going through, I don’t blame them for wanting this mess put to rest.

I accept apologies from people when they are offered. I don’t tend to forget what warranted the apology, though. I do my best to forgive, as I am expected to do.

Even when I don’t necessarily believe the person is sincerely sorry, I accept the apology. If they are deceitful, that is between them and God. And just because I accept the apology does not mean I will make the mistake of assuming everything is peachy-keen and trust them again.

But like I said, the father probably just wants to be left alone to grieve with his family.

I think one of his problems is others write his speeches. He simply reads them off the prompter.
Not having any input into what is written, he doesn’t remember what he read previously.
He didn’t have to use his brain and formulate the words.

We don’t know what he said to the family, so we don’t know if it were a real apology.

Any apology that attempts to shift blame to someone or something else is not an apology.

Any apology that effectively has a “but” appended to it is not an apology.

Any apology that says “if anyone was offended” or “if you were offended” or “that you were offended” is not an apology.

I agree. Right after I read this, I asked my husband, who is preparing for his fourth combat deployment, if it HAD to be the President that gave out the award. Because if it has to be him, I would spit at him, I think. If, God Forbid, anything were to happen to my husband, I would not want his name to even cross Obama’s lips. He has absolutely NO respect for our military. And I’m guessing it is because the vote Republican for the most part.

According to the WH yesterday, these were unprepared remarks with no teleprompter. Watching the video, I would agree. A very poor presentation.
