Jimmy Carter showed us what to do with incompetent presidents -
Do not re-elect them, and just ignore them for the rest of their lives. We gave them a chance to lead once, but never again would we follow them anywhere. One-term presidents are ones that America finally figured out don't deserve the office.

The only thing lower than a one-term president is a nominee from the liberals, that even they can't get elected - Kerry, Gore, Dukakis, Mondale, McGovern, Humphrey, even as far back as Adlai Stevenson.
So that dates me.
